Woot! 2 (kind of) nominations for Batman Begins!

One for Bale (not for the movie but still, he's BATMAN damn it!) and one for Nolan! (Who is one of my favorite directors now, after Batman. 3 fantastic movies in a row, might have been 4, but apparently the DVD release of Following is fucked up, because I got 3 seperate DVDs from Netflix and they just would not work)

Bale was nominated for The Machinist!!

But Batman Begins still got two, as Cillian Murphy was nominated.

Ah, how did I miss that?!

Pride & Prejudice should win this one easily.

I think it won't and I will explain why.

Notice how The Constant Gardener is the only movie that is nominated as Best Movie AND as Best British Movie. Thus they probably consider it the best British movie anyway if it made it even to the next step. Therefore, I think it will win Best British Movie definitely.

Knightley and Weisz will be in a race for Best Actress, though.

Too bad since The Constant Gardener was dull as possible. Yuck, I hated that movie.

No idea, I haven't seen either, but my own explanation sounds pretty logical to me, heh.

OMG, Don Cheadle should *totally* win for Actor of the Year.






Yes, I'm seriously choosing him over Johnny Depp. I'm still puzzled how Johnny's panned performance in CatCF (though I myself loved it) is managing to get nominated while his role for The Libertine--which is rumored to be his best performance yet--has thus far to be acknowledged...

The Libertine BOMBED big time in UK and the movie is mostly critically panned.

You know what? Ganz is a dark horse. Really, I have a feeling he's the kind of guy with enough coverage here that he could get a best actor nomination due to people's sympathy over Downfall's loss last year. I mean, as far as bad timing, because it would have taken BP this year easily, and all of its run in the states was pretty much this year.

Hidden/Cache, was France's big faux-pas during submission time. Clearly the most weel received French movie this year.

Incase you are talking about the Oscars, you should know that Downfall is not eligible.

If you are talking about these London awards, I have a feeling he might win because it seems that they loved Downfall quite a bit.

I know Downfall already ran last year, but I thought the acting selection was different no? Maybe I'm confused.

dolce, if a foreign film is nominated for Best Foreign Language oscar, it's no longer eligible for any other awards in the subsequent years, regardless when it is released in the U.S.

I knew that. i thought maybe it slipped in one week in some festival in late December, heh.

Xia, thanks, I was confused about that, and thought the regular awards were kind of independant of the foreign language film submissions. Damn.

That's the reason why Hero was ruled out from everything last year.

I have no idea why that rule is in play either. Make no sense to me whatsoever since a lot of foreign films don't get released in the U.S. the same year. So in order to get more Oscar recognition down the road, the film has to get "lucky" by either not being picked by its own country or as City of God did by being snubbed of a nomination by oscar committee.
