Post Tightest race this year?
Well, the title is self-explanatory. The race for which of the major Oscars this year do you consider to be the tightest one as of now (or you expect to become very tight). Last year, for instance, I'd say this title would go to the Best Picture race between The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby. The acting categories have been consistent all the wa with Blanchett, Foxx, Swank and Freeman being very clear frontrunners all the way.

This year, I'd say it is not that close for Best Picture as everything speaks for Brokeback Mountain as of now. This, of course, might change, but I don't really expect that tight of a race for Best Picture when all is said and done.

Best Actress is rather clear as wll as Reese Witherspoon has a huge advatntage as of now.

Ang Lee seems to be a certain frontrunner for Best Director.

In the Supprting Actor/Actress categories we really don't have any frontrunners as of now, so I would not say it is really a tight race between two particular actors/actresses.

What I'd consider the tightest race of the year is for Best Actor between Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Heath Ledger with Phoenix being there as well (but he is the 3rd most likely as of now). Hoffman started off very well, but Ledger will be gaining steam more and more. A Golden Globe win for Ledger would put both on par with each other. Phoenix is still in as well, of course. I reminds me a bit of 2003 with Murray vs. Penn vs. Depp.

Yeah, actor looks good this year. Too bad Sean Penn and All the King's Men aren't still in the running, then it would've been downright awesome with 4 frontrunning horses.

Best Director looks tight too. Ang Lee vs George Clooney is very close.

Best Actress isn't too bad either. If Keira can pull off a GG win, then things get very interesting.

I just think it is unlikely that Keira will pull it off.

I agree. I'm not sure the nomination is even a sure thing.

I also agree actor is very tight, but supporting actress seems to be a free-for-all right now as well. There are 9 or 10 candidates that easily could be nominated. So who can say who the clear leader is. Supporting actor is a similar situation, but the field seems a little smaller.
