One of the better shows in a while, but I like my awards show long. This show had flaws (way too many songs), but Neil was not one of them

I will give him an unenthusiastic, but not unsatisfied B. Cute song-and-dance at the start, which is his forte. Not great with the one-liners, though a few landed. He has a certain youthful charm and energy.

Similar to Hugh Jackman.

Compared to most Oscar hosts I'd say an A- at worst, he was entertaining the whole night, and if anything had built up enough leeway that he could've switched it up with a 'serious introductiion' or bit a few times more

B. He was enjoyable and entertaining.

The opening number was fun, too bad there was nothing as iconic as the selfie last year.

Good solid B+ with potential for more. Best-hosted show in at least five years, IMO.

Agreed. His presence was bright, but after his opening number, everything was hit and miss. More miss. Actually the only real hits seemed ad-libbed.

B+

The only thing that didn't work, imo, was the payoff to his box joke. I was certainly expecting it to say that the briefcases were switched on accident or something. But oh well.

His opening number was great and Jack Black killed it!

Same here. I feel like he was good, but the jokes and lines he was given were not.

Ellen was much better.

I give him a B- and that is probably being generous. Of the last 5 hosts, I would put him 4th, I would go Crystal, Ellen, Seth Macfarlane all above him.

I thought he was decent. The Oscars usually doesn't set you up for success being a host, but he did ok.

If I had to guess I'd say he worked for most people at home, but seemed worse because the in-house audience was (as usual) complete shit. Unlike an Ellen, Neil wasn't there to kiss people's asses. He wasn't there to take selfies. He was there to perform and tell jokes (which could've used another pass by good comedy writers).

B+

If it weren't for being on ABC I'd say next year's host is a lock to be Jimmy Fallon. He'd be a perfect mix of what Ellen tried to do last year and mostly failed at and what NPH did this year and did mostly well with. I don't see ABC showcasing him though, especially considering that Kimmel would have to follow him that night. Maybe ABC overlooks that though and realizes what a juggernaut they could possibly have if they got Fallon.
