Having STID and IM3 over MOS is ridiculous.

Re: Best Visual Effects Oscar 2013
I have mixed feelings in regard to Man of Steel's FX. I find several of the design choices grating or misguided, particularly during the prologue, but I know I shouldn't necessarily hold this against the technicians who generated and realized what they were assigned to.

No MOS finals. That's over the top.

Could Hobbit upset Gravity in effects? Smaug was pretty awesome.

Re: Best Visual Effects Oscar 2013
Indeed. Gravity has this in the bag, signed, sealed, and delivered. No fantasy sequel is going to top a super acclaimed Best Picture nominee built upon the extensive use of computer-generated images. Gravity is this year's Hugo, this year's Life of Pi: the visionary director proving visual FX can be a storytelling tool, etc., etc.
If there is any "upset" in this category, I would love for it to be The Lone Ranger scoring a surprise nomination.

Re: Best Visual Effects Oscar 2013
It's even above those two, being a $250+ million hit and with effects even more acclaimed and essential. Gravity will get more than 80% of the votes.
