 Which Best Sup. Actress nominee this year is actually best? Well, the title is self-explanatory.
After having seen all five, I've gotta go with Penelope Cruz. Her best performance to date, IMO.
Last spot would actually go to Viola Davis. A decent turn, but certainly not nomination-worthy.

Re: Which Best Sup. Actress nominee this year is actually best? Adams in Doubt, surprised as I am to say it. This was a pretty weak year for this category, and her performance was pretty excellent. Cruz was good, but way overhyped.

Re: Which Best Sup. Actress nominee this year is actually best? I'm probably either going to be alone or in a minority on this one, but Viola Davis. Even with just one 12-minute scene, she left a huge impression, more than any of the other actors in that movie left on me.
