snack wrote: yeah, and Kate really, really loved RevRoad. It was like a personal project. She basically got the film made. I'm sure she's not too pleased. She has also been VERY vocal about wanting to win. And she is smart enough to realize that if her role is in a BP nominated film that increases her chances greatly.

Even more important, Harvey destroyed any chance of Kate's husband getting recognition. Why so? He is the main reason The Reader wasn't pushed to 2009. That created a cascade effect and Revolutionary Road was one of many victims.

I love how absolutely NO ONE involved with The Reader felt it was good enough for a release. Except Harv.

Re: Not Content, Harvey Wants Best Picture
It doesn't seem to me that Rev Road ever had a chance. It seems the film was inexplicably brushed aside pretty early on. The premise is pretty damn boring. Besides, American Beauty covers the American-suburbia-gone-bad genre.

That's because it came out in 1962.

Besides, American Beauty covers the American-suburbia-gone-bad genre. But according to you, TDK and WALL-E didn't have a chance either. You have a chance until you don't. That's how the Oscars work. Had The Reader not come out, all the focus would have been that Kate performance, and perhaps Leo and Sam Mendes would have been carried along for the ride. Or not. We've seen many films, especially in the 00's nominated for Best Picture based pretty much on a single lead acting performance.

Re: Not Content, Harvey Wants Best Picture
Well, WALL-E and TDK weren`t nominated, were theyÉ
Mind you, I would have liked to see them get in (YES, I SAID IT), but as I have zero respect for the Academy and hold it to a low standard, the actualy nominees mean very little to me. I`m just one of those people who stands by the side and bitches. I`m like an Oprah audience member: always there, but largely invisible.

I like how Oprah's name is a misspelling of one of the weirder Biblical names.

Re: Not Content, Harvey Wants Best Picture
The Reader's surprise nomination and Harvey Weinstein's comment here remind me why I didn't miss him at all in the past few awards seasons. I liked The Reader, but it is so very far from being the best movie of the year, and we all know that Weinstein's desperation for more Oscar gold is why this thing was in the race as thickly as it evidently was. It would deserve at least some level of the hostility even if The Dark Knight had made the cut and it had knocked something else out.

I just hope there isn't a backlash for Harvey's Nine in December.
