Atonement is an out-and-out failure. Time to pin your hopes on The Last Legion then Bradford. Last Legion will remain unappreciated by the Oscars ®, but it's a lock for the Bradleys ® - - whereas Atonement will get neither...

It will continue to expand slowly until January 4th, when it will go wide.

Re: Atonement for Best Picture Club
erhmmmm
it has a 85 at metacritic with 11 100s out of 31 reviews from the major critics? (against No Country's 20 100s and 91 rating, true, but do we really expect that one to win, after The Departed's win last year?)
It's like totally in.

Re: Atonement for Best Picture Club
The WGA snub was the last nail in the coffin. Like Sweeney Todd it won't be nominated. So sad...

I'm seeing this either tomorrow or Sunday.
I think it's a longshot for Picture now, though.

Re: Atonement for Best Picture Club
There's always hope for these kind of films. Just look at Letters From Iwo Jima. Ok, Wright is no Eastwood, but I'll just wait for the 22nd... it just needs more Guilds (at least 3 of these: ACE, PGA, CDA, ADG) and a Globe or two (BP would be great, like Babel last year), even if it doesn't make a difference anymore.

Why couldn't the Academy just have honoured this across the board like they were supposed to? It got 7 nominations this morning. If they threw in Best Director, Film Editing and a nod to Kiera Knightley (instead of Blanchett for Elizabeth...), this could have fulfilled my "Nominations Dominator" dream. *sniff* Another boring year. Oh well, I can always hope again for next year! Peace, Mike

It deserved that really. And what's the deal with Editing recently anyway?! It used to represent the BP nominees pretty well, but nowadays, usually only 2-3 BP nominees get an Editing nom.

Re: Atonement for Best Picture Club
Yeah Atonement had probably the best editing I've seen so far this year, I don't understand the snub.
