Check out last year buddy.

Hmmm... so I guess Die Hard 4 is also a contender somehow...? (though it'll have a better shot in the sound categories, I can only assume)

Easily....only thing that I could possibly see going wrong is people being more in awe of 300's because they were so stylized...but I doubt it.

1. Transformers
2. Spiderman
3. Golden Compass
4. At World's End (they love the water flicks)
5. OOTP (doubt it though)
Don't think anything else has much of a chance.

Re: VISUAL EFFCTS NOMINATION FOR OSCAR 2007
Would Beowulf qualify? It totally had the most impressive visual effects I've seen all year.

Re: VISUAL EFFCTS NOMINATION FOR OSCAR 2007
300 deserves it about ten times more, but Transformers is gonna win.
I'm hoping TGC grabs a nom, but that would depend upon its critical reception. If it gets great reviews, it could sneak into the race just for that. If not, AWE will probably replace it as the third nominee, although even though SM3's quality was disappointing to many, it had some really stunning FX and was worthy of a nom. I really wish they broadened the category to five nominees this year.

The Golden Compass Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Transformers
Frankly, Golden Compass would have to be a huge hit AND have damned impressive effects to top Transformers for the win (and I feel that Pirates, or whatever takes place as the third nominee- I think Spider-Man 3 or 300 could do it as well- has absolutely no shot at winning).

Re: VISUAL EFFCTS NOMINATION FOR OSCAR 2007
My VES predictions:
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Transformers The Golden Compass
I think that Pirates and Transformers will pretty certainly make it to the Oscars too. The 3rd will be either TGC or Spider-Man 3.

Re: VISUAL EFFCTS NOMINATION FOR OSCAR 2007
I think the Academy appreciates epic vfx like those in The Golden Compass, and the mixing of the daemons and the actors is another impressive and constantly present vfx tech in the film which should see it get nominated.

Re: VISUAL EFFCTS NOMINATION FOR OSCAR 2007
I agree. I think TGC is in since it's very Oscar-y VFX. I think the last spot is between 300 and AWE. If they dig the 300 style, it's in, and very deservedly so, but if they don't, it hasn't a chance against AWE.
TF's got the win wrapped up, though.
