 The Lion King
The Lion King Quote: The Lion King is a 1994 American animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Released to theaters on June 15, 1994 by Walt Disney Pictures, it is the 32nd film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics. The story, which was influenced by the Bible stories of Joseph and Moses, the Epic of Sundiata, and the William Shakespeare play Hamlet, takes place in a kingdom of anthropomorphic animals in Africa. The film was the highest grossing animated film of all time until the release of Finding Nemo (a 2003 Disney/Pixar computer-animated film). The Lion King is the sixth highest grossing animated film and continues to be the highest grossing hand drawn animation film in history and belongs to an era known as the Disney Renaissance.
The Lion King is the highest grossing 2D animated film of all time in the United States, and received positive reviews from critics, who praised the film for its music and story. During its release in 1994, the film grossed more than $783 million worldwide, becoming the most successful film released that year, and it is currently the 32nd highest-grossing feature film.
A musical film, The Lion King garnered two Academy Awards for its achievement in music and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Songs were written by composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice, with an original score by Hans Zimmer. Disney later produced two related movies: a sequel, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998); and a prequel/parallel, The Lion King 1½ (2004).
A Broadway adaptation of the show opened in 1997 and won six Tony Awards including one for Best Musical. One of the best movies of my childhood. Now, it's probably the second or third best animated movie ever. A

The best traditionally animated film of all time. A true classic. I'll be rewatching this, after I get through the shit I need to watch.

After Nemo, this is my favorite animated movie ever, and sits comfortably in my top 30. Nothing can truly grasp the raw wonder this movie offers. It's laughter and gentleness, to it's dark emotions. It's almost unchallenged in it's ability to appeal to everybody, in one way or another. That's why I think it did so well.

Classic, good movie. I love the part where his father dies, very emotional.

Not the best Disney feature. It is far too kitschy and the Elton John songs are not only terrible on their own, but terribly put to use as well. It is a nice childrens movie, but if you're a few years older you fare much better with more adult Disneys like Aladdin, Emperor's New Groove or Beauty and the Beast (C+)

One of the best animated films ever.
"Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" are amazing songs.
I should also note that the The Lion King contains one of the best opening sequences ever.

This one ties Toy Story 2 for the best animated movie I have ever seen. Not much else to be said here.

One of my favorites. While not the best animated movie I've ever seen (I'd save that for Spirited Away and Beauty and the Beast), it is one of the best.

A+ for me; top 15 or 10 of all time and easily the best animated picture every.
It harked back to the glory days of animation where storys were engaging and entertaining rather than just a shoestring holding together a concept and some childish gags.
As far as it goes for me
1. The Lion King
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Finding Nemo

I don't know why everyone is so into this movie. Its a weak story. A boring one, the characters are almost all obnoxious, I think they decended to new lows with the flatulence jokes in the comic side-kicks. The best thing about King was definately the animation, and I will admit the opening song/sequence is one of the top ten Disney moments ever. There are actully some very good scnees until Simba runs away. After that the animation really drops a grade and isn't nearly as creative, pretty, extravagant or visionary. It pretty normal. The drop in quality as the film progresses hurts it more than if it had been a mediocre steady like Pocahontas or Hercules actually, because after looking at Mt. Killi jutting through the clowds and the animals crossing the planes, one expects more.
So-so,

OH wow. Oh my god wow. I went to a special engagement showing of the movie today. It was on one the those megascreens. Not exactly an IMax, but still, really fucking big. It was...indescribable. The opening sequence is just so incredibly beautiful. It's always been a favorite of mine, but...I'm just speachless about the whole experience. The movie has probably risen a few spots and maybe even crept into my top ten. I suppose I could try and give it a grade, but it certainly wouldn't adequately summarize my thoughts on it all. A++++

Best hand-drawn animated film ever. One of my favourites when I was a kid. I don't know how well it'll hold up today, but still a classic.
