 The King of Staten Island
Quote: The King of Staten Island is a 2020 American comedy-drama film directed by Judd Apatow, from a screenplay by Apatow, Pete Davidson, and Dave Sirus. It stars Davidson, Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr, Bel Powley, Maude Apatow, and Steve Buscemi, and follows a young man who must get his life together after his mom starts dating a new guy, who is also a firefighter like his deceased father.
The film was announced as Apatow's next project in early 2019, with the cast joining that April. Filming took place around New York City in June and July. The film has been called a "semi-biographical" take on Davidson's life, who lost his firefighter father during the September 11 attacks and has had his own battles with depression.
Originally intended to be theatrically released, the film was released digitally via video on demand on June 12, 2020, by Universal Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Davidson's performance and Apatow's handling of the mature subject matter.

Loved this. Very funny, very emotional, great performances all around. Davidson goes all in on the role and doesn't care how much of a dick it makes him look like. The funniest scene is when he continues to be trusted with people's children just because he doesn't want to be. "I feel like a weirdo would deny it." 100% worthy of being in the Judd Apatow catalog.

Re: The King of Staten Island
I didn't love it, but I did think it was really good and probably the best thing Apatow has done in years, although I also remember saying the same thing about 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up after I first saw them as well, so I'm curious to see how this one also holds up within the next couple of years. Pete Davidson carries this well though and the dude is just legitimately funny, but I already knew that after I seeing him in Big Time Adolescence.
This movie has a strong supporting cast as well with some really solid performances from Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr and Bel Powley to help balance things out which elevates it even more.

I liked the movie and its definitely Apatow's better output from recent times but still the whole growing up part just did not connect with me. Tomei and other supporting characters are good and Davidson impresses again here (after Big Time Adolescence) though I would like him to play a different character now.

Yeah, this was good. Not great or anything, but I would recommend it to everyone.
Davidson is really great and has a lot of great lines in the film. I knew nothing about him beforehand.
