Chris Rock was one of the best things about The Longest Yard.

Chris Rock is the most pathetic excuse for a comedian ever.

Why even watch The Longest Yard, then? You seem to have already made up your mind about it.

I'm definitely in the latter category, but I hated Waterboy, too. My grades:

Punch-Drunk Love - A
Happy Gilmore - A-
Billy Madison - B+
The Wedding Singer - B
Mr. Deeds - C+
Little Nicky - C
Big Daddy - C-
The Waterboy - C-
Eight Crazy Nights - D

I haven't bothered with 50 First Dates or Anger Managment, as they both look terrible. You think i'd like this one?

I can't say. It looks like another shitty take on the Waterboy.

50FD and AM were two of his best, imo.

Zing, my mind is made that Chris Rock sucks. But I don't mind Sandler at all. I'll watch it eventually.

Besides, it just like you and those Trek movies you award Fs without seeing.

Anger Management is actually very, very funny. There's a twist at the end that sucks, but...

There's a couple of the generalizations (As if all Sandler movies don't have 'em), but it's replete with hysterical scenes.

Rent it.

And as a bonus, Jack Nicholson co-stars.

Well, Nicholson has almost as much screen time as Sandler.

Chris Rock is one of the best stand up comedians ever, his movies are bad though.

Cause nothing in any of his movies, would ever make it into one of his stand-up rountines / comedy specials.

I saw the film yesterday I walking in like 25 mins later, missed all the trailers and about 10mins of the film. But the film was funny. I thought that it was well done, but some of Sandlers previous are better.

Adam Sandler's best are Happy Gilmore and Wedding Singer. TLY ranks at the top with those two.

Now that I have seen the movie for a second time, I can clearly write down my thoughts.

This was surprisingly one hell of a dark movie. This is a good and bad thing. It's a good thing in the sense that Sandler's beating early on in the film and (SPOILER) Chris Rock basically blowing up, help setup the direction for the end of the film. It's a bad thing though because it kind of turns off the audience. Today I saw the film with only six people in the theater (Two of them being my parents), and with the exception of my father and myself, the movie did not play very well, once Sandler is kicked off the bus and gets the crap kicked out of him by Fichtner. It's also a bad thing because you do not expect too much drama in an Adam Sandler film that is produced by Allen Covert and company (He wasn't involved in Spanglish and Punch-Drunk Love, and Going Overboard doesn't count because that just sucked).

Now don't get me wrong. I still think this is a very good film that is very funny, and still manages to have somewhat of a strong plot. I just don't think it's as good as some of Sandler's other films.

B+

Also, since everyone was ranking Sandler's films, I might as well do the same.

The Longest Yard - B+
Spanglish - A+
50 First Dates - B-
Anger Management - B
Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights - B
Punch-Drunk Love - A+
Mr. Deeds - C
Little Nicky - C-
Big Daddy - A
The Waterboy - B+ (The "Towel Boy" had me literally falling out of my seat at the movie theater, it was so funny)
The Wedding Singer - A-
Bulletproof - C+
Happy Gilmore - A+ (Shooter: "I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast." Happy: "You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?" Plus it gets points for the Bruins jersey.)
Billy Madison - A
Mixed Nuts - N/A
Airheads - B-
Going Overboard - D-

I definately enjoyed this movie. It's not your typical Sandler movie. There are some very funny moments but some serious too which I wasn't expecting. But that didn't bothered me. B

My Sandler Grades:

Happy Gilmore - B+
Billy Madison - B+
Mr. Deeds - B+
Big Daddy - B+
Spanglish - A-
50 First Dates - B+
The Wedding Singer - B+
The Longest Yard - B
Little Nicky - B
Anger Management - C+
The Waterboy - C+

It is a decent comedy, especially for Sandler. Probably my 4th favorite Sandler film thus far. However, for a year with such hilarious comedies like 40-Year-Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Kung-Fu Hustle, this one seems pretty tane. Actually, in the first half of the movie, I laughed a lot, but the second went down rapidly as far as good jokes go. It would have been Sandler's best or at least close if the entire film was as funny as the first half. Chris Rock was decent here, but did not gather as many laughs as I'd have hoped. It certainly is entertaining and more fun than, say, Anger Management or Waterboy, but as it stands there wre several far better comedies last year.

Since everyone is grading Sandler films in here, I will do so as well:

Little Nicky - B+ (shut up!)
Bulletproof - B+
50 First Dates - B
The Longest Yard - B
Anger Management - B
Spanglish - B
The Waterboy - C+
Big Daddy - D+

I need to rewatch Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison before grading. Never seen Mr. Deeds and Punch-Drunk Love.

I know Little Nicky gets shit, and for good reason, but...it's still better than anything he's made since. There's some good stuff in there, actually.

Bleh, probably one of the worst movies of last year. Over-long and misses the mark completely.

Hmm, never reviewed this movie.

Sandler really never disappoints me, and this one is no different. It's funny, has great football scenes, and some surprisingly dark moments that make it very interesting. It's not the originl thats for sure, but I laughed throughout and just had a real good time watching it.

Billy Madison A
Happy Gilmore A
Wedding Singer A
The Waterboy A-
Big Daddy A-
Little Nicky D
Mr. Deeds C+
Punch Drunk Love A
Eight Crazy Nights D
Anger Management B+
50 First Dates B+
Spanglish C+
Longest Yard B+
Click B

Havent Seen Chuck and Larry or Reign over Me. He had a rough spot starting with Little Nicky, but once Anger Management came out he was back on track.

sub-par. When they tried making things serious, it really fell apart. I mean, Chris Rock dying? I honestly thought it was supposed to be a joke or something, it wasn't headed in that direction at all.
