 The Longest Yard (2005)
The Longest Yard Quote: The Longest Yard is a 2005 American sports comedy film remake of the 1974 film of the same name. Adam Sandler plays the protagonist, Paul Crewe, a disgraced former professional football quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL, who is coerced to form a team from the prison inmates to play football against their guards.
Burt Reynolds, who played Adam Sandler's role in the original, plays a major role as Nate Scarborough, the head coach and a former Heisman Trophy winner for Oklahoma in 1955, and Chris Rock as Crewe's cell neighbor and friend known as Caretaker. The ensemble supporting cast includes James Cromwell, Nelly, William Fichtner and a number of then current and semi-retired football players such as Terry Crews, Michael Irvin, Brian Bosworth and Bill Romanowski, and professional wrestlers including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bill Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Bob Sapp and Dalip "The Great Khali" Singh Rana.
The film was released in North America by Paramount Pictures and worldwide by Columbia Pictures (the latter of which has released the majority of Sandler's films since the early 2000s).

I'm seeing it sometime this weekend, probably Sunday. I'll tell you how I like it.

SOME SPOILERS:
I still didn't buy Adam Sandler as a "sexy" quarterback even after the end of the well-edited footbal match against the guards. To me, the laughs were scarcely scattered throughout the movie and some scenes (like the guards beating up prisoners) seemed out-of-place. They could've made this movie into a drama with some dark humor and would've worked better. There are some very hilarious moments though with Tracy Morgan leading a group of gay/cross-dressing inmates, a guard taking estrogen instead of steroids and Cloris Leachman as a horny... was she a secretary? I forgot.
I can see lots of guys and football fans enjoying this since a lot of football personalities/players and professional wrestlers have roles.
Overall C++ (haha the extra plus is for Bill Romanowski)

I thought the movie was an above average summer comedy but not one of Sandler's best by any means. Although I did enjoy the roles of the former NFL players and wrestlers. In the end it had some good laughs, but nothing great.

This really was a lot of fun. Much of the movie probably had to do with the incredibly exicted crowd, but The Longest Yard was nonetheless much funnier then the ads made it look. A few jokes were overplayed (especially the estrogen guy thing), but a lot went over really well. A number of the members of the supporting cast helped carry the movie big time (Cloris Leachman had one scene where I was nearly in tears thanks to having seen her and Sandler in Spanglish just a week ago), though Adam Sandler wasn't half bad. Not his best film, but he was his usual, very solid self. Chris Rock wasn't as great as he could've been but that's like saying that you got a 50 instead of a 100 dollar bill off the ground, he's very consistently hillarious. I do have to say though that Burt Reynolds really didn't seem up to the challenge. Bad case of sleepwalking through the role, let's hope he doesn't for Dukes of Hazzard too. Overall though, it wasn't anything great, not even Adam Sandler's great comeback all my friends were saying (I liked 50 First Dates more, even though it wasn't half as funny), but it's definitely a fun night out at the movies for those not expecting Shakespeare. Freakin' funniest movie of the year so far. This is the old Adam Sandler. The funny Adam Sandler. The movie was a blast from beginning to end. Non-stop laughter. Just like Meet the Fockers, the crappy trailer was worth it because the movie kicked ass. Sandler was hilarious, of course. Chris Rock was, by far, the best part of the movie. Other additions like Nelly, Goldberg, Stone Cold, Kevin Nash, and others made the movie even better. Unfortunately, Burt Reyonlds sucked. Waste of screen time. It's not Sandler's best work, but damn, I just couldn't stop laughing. A-

Not the best Adam Sandler movie - he didn't get to do a lot in this one, except try to look cool (I prefer it when he's trying to look goofy). Not to say that it's a bad movie - it's just a pretty standard straightforward underdog sports flick. I would have liked them to establish the prison setting a bit more - it seemed like they could've been anywhere. Chris Rock was also underused, though he's got a couple of pretty funny lines. Also, Burt's looking pretty darn old, but was adequate here. This one's a definite timewaster, but if your in the mood for some football in the offseason - y'all better check it out!
3 out of 5.

Wait, wait, wait. Lemme guess.
There's, like, a plethora of sodomy jokes (because it's in jail, ho, ho!), Chris Rock racial commentary PG-13 style, and lots of big black guy talking in itty bitty voice.
Oh, slays me just thinking about it!
(Oh goodness.)
Heh. Watch me see it some time down the line and end up liking it.

Mostly no to all of the above bolded comments
nothing close to a plethora - just one or two incidents of each
which I think were mainly shown in the trailers

There's only one guy that talks in an itty bitty voice. =;
You'll like it, though.

It's kind of hard not to like, Dkmuto. It's soooo funny.
Great filmmaking though? Nah.

It's actually a lot funnier than the trailers would suggest.

Is it as funny as Monster-in-Law, and how does it hold up to other Sandler comedies?

It's definitely in a similar league to Monster-in-Law - both are by-the-book non-innovative but pretty funny comedies...
As to it's place in the Sandler ouevre:
(best to worst)
Happy Gilmore (1996) 50 First Dates (2004) The Waterboy (1998) Little Nicky (2000) The Wedding Singer (1998) Billy Madison (1995) The Longest Yard (2005) Mr. Deeds (2002) Spanglish (2004) Punch-Drunk Love (2002) Eight Crazy Nights (2002) Anger Management (2003) Big Daddy (1999)
I'd put it around the middle (mind you, not many people are as big a fan of Little Nicky as I am...)

I'm a huge Adam Sandler fan, but I skipped Spanglish and Punch-Drunk Love. I'd put his movies in this order (from best to worst)
Big Daddy - A
Billy Madison - A
Happy Gilmore - A
The Longest Yard - A-
Anger Management - B+
The Waterboy - B+
Mr. Deeds - B
50 First Dates - B-
Eight Crazy Nights - C+
...and way down here...
The Wedding Singer - C-
Little Nicky - D+
Even the great comedians make wrong choices...

Not surpised. A lot of people liked that movie (here), but personally, I hated it. Didn't find one thing funny about it...

There seems to be two types of Adam Sandler fans, those that like his watered down stuff like Anger Management & [Big Daddy - and then those that like his wacked out stuff like Happy Gilmore & Waterboy.
Then there are the many who like the Wedding Singer and the few who love Little Nicky...
