Alien vs. Predator

Quote:
Alien vs. Predator, also known as AVP, is a 2004 American science fiction film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson for 20th Century Fox and starring Sanaa Lathan and Lance Henriksen. The film adapts the Alien vs. Predator crossover imprint bringing together the eponymous creatures of the Alien and Predator series, a concept which originated in a 1989 comic book. Anderson, Dan O'Bannon, and Ronald Shusett wrote the story, and Anderson and Shane Salerno adapted the story into a screenplay. Their writing was influenced by Aztec mythology, the comic book series, and the writings of Erich von Däniken.

Set in 2004, the film follows a team of archaeologists assembled by billionaire Charles Bishop Weyland (Henriksen) for an expedition near the Antarctic to investigate a mysterious heat signal. Weyland hopes to claim the find for himself, and his group discovers a pyramid below the surface of a whaling station. Hieroglyphs and sculptures reveal that the pyramid is a hunting ground for Predators who kill Aliens as a rite of passage. The humans are caught in the middle of a battle between the two species and attempt to prevent the Aliens from reaching the surface.

The film was released on August 13, 2004, in North America and received mostly negative reviews from film critics. Some praised the special effects and set designs, while others dismissed the film for its "wooden dialogue" and "cardboard characters". Nevertheless, Alien vs. Predator was a commercial success, grossing over $172 million against its $60 million production budget. The film's success led to a sequel in 2007 titled Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

Me and Zing usually agree, but I can't help but disagree. The Grudge is low on plot, but high on thrills and chills. Even the plot is fairly good, on horror movie standards. On action standards, Alien vs. Predator's plot is FORGETTABLE. I can't even remember the plot. But, like most would want me to do, I forgot about the plot, and just focused on the action, since AvP is meant to be enjoyed as an action movie. But guess what! The action sucks, too. Know why? PG-13. Where the film should be full of blood and guts, it quickly cuts away. At least The Grudge lets you use your imagination. Would you want an action movie to have a car soaring through the air, then land on the ground, and all you hear is a faint explosion, before cutting away quickly to the next scene? Hell no, you want to see the explosion. In AvP, you want to see someone being killed, you want to see the action up close, even if it means an R rating. But, the studio cut it for the teenage crowd, and that's why AvP sucks. I probably will recommend it, if the R-rated version surfaces to DVD. Otherwise... Grade: D+

What in the bloody hell was this? I expected the movie to be bad, I didn't think it would be this bad. It was stupid, boring, and pointless. Not something I'll be seeing again.

3/10 (D-)

Horrible addition to the franchise. Unfortunately, though, I liked it more than Alien 4....

Who the hell said this is suppose to be an academy award winning movie? All I wanted was some justice to both the franchises, the fans are the ones who made this movie possible and they got f'ed in teh ass.

Are you saying you did or didn't like it? I think the very first sentence is something all AvP fans try to justify their movie with. Is it possible I just DIDN'T like it? Name me a big budget movie that was all action and nothing else that you didn't like, and I'll say the same thing you said.

A+

My favorite director and idol Paul The Man Anderson does it well to satisfy both the Aliens and Predator fan. Why the complaint of lack of gore when its supposed to be a bunch of slimy uber aliens vs the predator creatures. It felt so enjoyable like Im using my controller pad and playing a video game except it on a big ass 50 ft screen. Just WOW just WOW. In the end the creatures were so evenly matched that it could either have the Aliens or Predator win
I hope to see your sequel for AVP, Paul The Man Anderson

It was actually a darn entertaining movie. It is too sad about the missed opportunity that this movie has become in the end. It could have been so much better, especially with the hard R-rating. You know, a PG-13 Alien or Predator movie is just not the same consdering not a single entry in either franchise was rated PG-13. Nonetheless, it remains pretty entertaining. You know, watching two of the most famous and vicious monsters in film history duking it out with each other is always fun and at least we get to see some monster carnage. The plot is generic and there's zilch special about it. The acting is not really bad, but not quite oscar-worthy either. The best thing about the movie is that it is really fast-paced and never leaves you bored for a second.

It wasn't as bad as it could have been but it also missed a lot of potential. The fight sequences were decent but could have been much better if the studio had not decided to go for the "PG-13" rating. Sub-par performances by the actors certainly doesn't help matters, only making the film slip lower in credance. The story set-up could have been better but given the circumstances it was not as bad as it could have been.

Overall, not as bad as some have said but nowhere near as good as it could have been. C

I'd give this around a 6/10 (B-). It's decent, but a bit boring and not as good as it could have been.

The one thing that made Predator and the best of the Alien movie's so enjoyable was the suspense the dread. Sure we all loved the iconic beast's but deep down that not what made them true classic's.

So it is with AVP you get a movie that has all the money shot's of the two big boy's fighting it out but is devoid of the dread menace and weight of it's predecessors.

This is a massively dissapointing movie, maybe it's top popcorn fare but Alien and Predator deserve more then that.
There weighier character's then the usual summer fluff.

Then there's the machinegun editing of the fight scene's no doubt to get it's PG-13 rating, and the totally bland human character's which show up another mistake this movie makes.

The previous movie's had memorable character's like Ripley and Dutch, hell even Glover's cop in Predator 2 was meaty compared to the snoozfest of humanity on display here.

A true joke of a movie that showcases the worst of hollywood shortsightedness.

Awesome fight scenes, but that's about it. This could've used an R rating. Plot was high-concept, low-execution. Acting was terrible. Effects were excellent. Far too short, also.

I actually thought that chick and the Predator are gonna make sweet love and make hybrid babies or something. Blah, he just gave her a tattoo.

Entertaining at times... but... yeah....

Total crap. Dumb story (I won't even get into the acting) and even the F/X sucked. When the Alien tumbled through the houses in the finale it was so bad you could actually tell it was only a model. What a bore. F
