 Cop Out
Cop Out Quote: Cop Out is 2010 American film directed by Kevin Smith, written by brothers Mark and Robb Cullen, and starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. The main plot revolves around two longtime NYPD partners (portrayed by Willis and Morgan) on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card who find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed violent gangster. This is the first film that Smith directed for which he did not write the screenplay.

 Re: Cop Out
This movie was pretty much terrible. Slack direction (Smith is terrible at actually directing, let alone action sequences, some of the dullest ever herein; nothing you won't see on a hour-long TV drama) and the editing (also by Smith) leaves the film running out of gas at least 40 minutes before it crawls across the finish line. Willis seemed so bored here.

 Re: Cop Out
Kevin Smith, usually known for his smart and funny comedies falls flat with Cop Out. The buddy action story is all too familiar and follows the same exact pathway that it is too predictable. Tracy Morgan also gets a bit annoying after a while. Yes there are a few laughs about but its a big pass. *1/2

Tremendously unfunny. Far and away Smith's worst film.

Hmm, I didn't think Jersey Girl was so-bad-it's-funny. I actually thought it was just bad.

 Re: Cop Out
I enjoyed Jersey Girl. I would love to see Smith's longer cut.

 Re: Cop Out
Some jokes are funny, many are very bad, Morgan is annoying and Willis was alright though he didn't have many funny lines.
Sean William Scott was great, the story was meh, the bad guys were terrible, anything else?
This is the first Smith movie I've seen so maybe I just don't like his humour about toilet jokes or whatever.
A C or something like it.

 Re: Cop Out
It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but not as good as it should have been. The elements were there when it was announced: the script was on some list of best unproduced screenplays, Kevin Smith signed on to direct (much to yoshue's dismay), Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan to star, a buddy cop comedy! I didn't expect it to re-invent the wheel, but I didn't expect them to just show me the wheel, after knowing the wheel my whole life.
When the movie is serious with funny moments, it works. But too often, it veers off into cartoonishly bad. The whole opening scene with Tracy reciting the movie lines was bad. It did not do a good job of setting the movie up. The bad guy was a cartoon recreation of all Mexican baddies in cop movies. And to be honest, Willis and Morgan were decent, but truthfully, I was more interested in Kevin Pollak and Adam Brody. They might have made a decent movie together.
All in all, Kevin Smith has come a long way from Clerks, but like Jersey Girl, when he operates outside of his wheelhouse, he's mediocre. Jersey Girl was closer to his material than Cop Out, but while both films were meant to push Smith forward in cinema, neither did. It just feels like someone who loved 80s cop movies is trying to direct a 2010 cop movie of his own, just as Jersey Girl was from a guy who loved John Hughes flicks and wanted to make a 2004 Hughes movie of his own. That really doesn't get my hopes up for Red State.
But at least there's the SModcast Podcast Network.

Cop Out
It had an 80s buddy-cop vibe to it (including a Tango & Cash-esque riff playing throughout), but not a good one. Tracy Morgan is the most idiotic person in a film that I can remember. Very hard to watch him. Perhaps even more unbearable than Tyrese Gibson in the Fast and the Furious franchise. I cannot even imagine anyone, black or white, thinking he's watchable. And Bruce Willis just sleepwalks through the flick. Does Willis have it written into his contracts that he must be allowed to wear short-sleeved shirts? That really seems to be his thing. I liked Sean William Scott and the back chat stuff, and also the wife being a cheater was kind of funny until we realise she actually isn't (and his wife is smoking hot, as is the Mexican mistress, as is the lawyers "wife"). The film is just badly composed too. For example, Sean William Scott has to take off his mask to speak just so we can see that it's Sean William Scott. Then 2 seconds later he speaks with his mask on. There are plenty of annoying things like this. Oh, and why are Kevin Pollak and the boy from The OC in this exactly? Completely unneeded throwaway roles.
So... D+
