Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Quote: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a 2010 fantasy adventure film written by Jordan Mechner, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, directed by Mike Newell, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is loosely based on the 2003 video game of the same name, developed and released by Ubisoft Montreal.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, Ben Kingsley as Nizam, and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar.
It is the fourth film under the Walt Disney Pictures banner to receive a PG-13 rating by the MPAA for intense sequences of violence and action. Despite the film being primarily based on The Sands of Time, elements from Warrior Within and The Two Thrones are also incorporated.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Jake Gyllenhaal was hot. The chemistry between him and Gemma Arterton seemed fine. Everything else.. terrible but not unbearable.

Not bad, standard popcorn flick improved by Mike Newell's direction. B.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
I actually enjoyed the film. My only complaint was shaky-cam during fight scenes. Gemma was hot and I enjoyed her scenes with Jake.
Jake was much better than Sam Worthington in the similar Clash of the Titans.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
A rickety old clunker of a movie held together by coat hangers and rubber bands - - Yikes! - - the Prince of Persia ambiguously careens across the Sands of Time.
Fortunately, it's being driven by old hand Mike Newell, who knows how to steer this sort of claptrap just to the very edge of the chasm of ludicrosity and yet brings ya back in one piece...

Very fun. I was never bored.
Alfred Molina stood out. He's hilarious in this. Gyllenhaal was solid, and Gemma Arterton is really, really hot.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia has the ingredients needed for a good blockbuster but on screen gives only a decent one instead. Jake Gyllenhaal does as good as he can in his lead role though at times his try at an accent is at times a bit unbearable. Ben Kingsley and Richard Coyle do poorly in their roles whereas Steve Toussaint would have done better if his role were extended. Gemma Arterton is find as Tamina and the chemistry between her and Gyllenhaal on screen is one of the film's better aspects. Alfred Molina does a fine job with his time on screen and offers a goof bit of comic relief. The action was fine though at times the action did overdue itself. Also the editing bay could of spent some more time on some desert scenes to make it look that the actors weren't standing in front of a green screen (especially during a scene between Arterton and Gyllenhaal). The story also just isn't as strong. It's a decent effort overall and if a sequel were ever to come, which looks doubtful now, the franchise I think could better itself. **

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
It was fine until the ending. The fight scenes were servicable albeit not particularly special and the acting wasn't... awful. The characters and plot were thin and conventional but rather enjoyable to watch unfold nonetheless. The idiotic conclusion nullifies not only the entire plot of the film, but any good will originally earned by it. I do not know if that was attempting to remain close to the game or the writers simply believed it would be a nice plot twist, but it was just awful, and makes you wonder why you watched 2 hours of events that never even unfold in this fantasy world.

What a dumb piece of shit! In the entire movie there is but one good scene (the one with the suicidal ostrich). Glad I didn't pay to watch this garbage.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Dull. Some of the action sequences were well staged, but there wasn't enough there to hold my interest. Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton's looks were the only aspects I found interesting.
And a 50+ couple in front of me, I think pretty much felt the same way. For the last 40 minutes of the film, they did nothing but make out and grope one another. It was both sweet (in an aww sort of way) and disgusting all at the same time.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
I loved this. In a Saturday-morning, cotton-candy way. It is not Art™, but I had a blast. I thought it was as entertaining as the first Pirates. After the near-toxic Iron Man 2 and the solid, but just-short Robin Hood, I was glad to see a 100 percent fun summer film. Gyllenhaal was charming and fit, Molina was HILARIOUS, the ancient cities/time travel scenes/etc. were beautiful, etc. And I was satisfied by the ending, which I know troubled others. Very solidly in the A-/ B+ range

7/10 -> B- An enjoyable adventure flick. Certainly a lot of things in it need a bit more polishing but it's a fun movie nonetheless. Jake is pretty great as prince and Molina is great too.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I expected good action and fight scenes and I got them. What I didn't expect was above average acting for this type of film (minus Ben Kingsley), and that I actually ended up caring about what was happening. The direction by Mike Newell was also quite good.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
A mummy and POC knockoff, which were B movies heightened by great effects, stories and characters. This suits the name. Though at the very heart it is a Videogame adaptation, and it might be the best at getting a C+ for being merely watchable, not laughably bad or anything.
The videogame parts made me think I was watching assassin's creed, with all the jumping, and viewpoints. This really is 2nd rate, but it really has nothing to distinguish itself from second rate. It's not awful, but where the Mummy and POC had some truly great effects and leads (Seriously the opening shot of Persia looked faker than the shot of Egypt in the Mummy 11 years earlier and 120 million cheaper.)
Solid C

I actually didn't find it terrible, until the whole movie resets, at which point it most definitely becomes terrible.
