 Bruce Almighty
Bruce Almighty Quote: Bruce Almighty is a 2003 American comedy film directed by Tom Shadyac and written by Steve Koren, Mark O'Keefe and Steve Oedekerk. It stars Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan, a down-on-his-luck TV reporter who complains that God isn't doing his job right, and is then offered the chance to try being God himself. Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Catherine Bell, Lisa Ann Walter, and Philip Baker Hall also star, while Tony Bennett makes a cameo appearance.
This is Tom Shadyac & Jim Carrey's third collaborations after working together in Shadyac's first film Ace Ventura Pet Detective which also launched Carrey's career. Then three years later, Shadyac & Carrey met again in the successful Liar Liar.
The film was a box office success despite mixed reviews from critics. When released in American theaters in May 2003, it took the #1 spot at the box office, grossing $85.89 million, higher than the release of Pearl Harbor, making it the highest-rated Memorial Day weekend opening of any film in motion picture history until the release of X-Men: The Last Stand over Memorial Day 2006. The movie surprised media analysts when it beat The Matrix Reloaded after its first week of release. By the time it left theaters in December 2003, it took in a United States domestic total of over $242 million and $484 million worldwide, breaking records as the 17th highest-grossing live action comedy of all time. I thought it was hilarious. Carrey's best? Not quite. But it's quite enjoyable. A-

It was pretty good, it felt like the supporting characters were underdeveloped to me but overall pretty fun movie. Aniston's most appealing movie role to date. The one thing I didn't like was the part where Freeman's God lets Carrey create floods and trouble in the far east when he moves the moon. I mean what kind of God would kill and injure innocent people on the other side of the world just to teach a yuppie a lesson.

Yeah but I was talking in the context of the film in which he does though.

It was good, though I felt a bit sac-religious while watching it. I blame this film for my turn to agnosticism. Not really.
It was good, but for some reason Carey just was a little "too" over-the-top in my opinion which brought down the overall quality. Still, a fun watch and quite funny. B+

Bruce Almighty: Filmed in Glorious Stinkerama!
Now this is one bad movie! ...and as some of you may remember I have notoriously low standards for comedies -- I consider a comedy good if I get one good laugh while watching it. No luck in the laughter department with Bruce Almighty.
This from a Jim Carrey fan?!? Yes, I really enjoyed his performances in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Liar,Liar, Man in the Moon, The Truman Show, and Fun with Dick and Jane (of course all the rest stunk almost as bad as this one).
Avoid at all costs - WARNING!!!
1 out of 5.

Probably my most anticipated and yet, most disappointing Jim Carrey movie ever. Jim Carrey is still pretty much my all-time favorite actor and the best that has ever graced comedy films. This movie had an ingenius teaser and great marketing. It all looked so great, so much fun. What happened was that it actually could sell itself well to the audience, but by doing that it pretty much gave away every single great joke from the movie during the TV spots or trailers. The film still remained mildly amusing, but definitely not to the extent that I wanted it to be. Carrey is great at his usual schtick and Freeman is a joy to watch, but the movi descends into predictable and boring schmaltz towards the end and the new laughs are too few and inbetween to equal it out. I wish the marketing campaign wouldn't have spoiled all the fun for me, but as it stands, it's one of Carrey's weakest efforts.

A film with a lot of funny moments but the syrup overload in the last half hour was a bit much to take.

If there is one film that never deserved over 240 million and 68 open its this film. Its all right, but its Carrey's worst high profile film. The movie is good, but not histerical, the biggest laugh came from Steve Carell. It had a good trailer but ultimately wasnt too good.

It's so comfortable in there, though

It starts off okay and then barrels into the ground at full speed.
The "What if God Was One of Us" montage was pretty embarassing.

Bruce Almighty
Funny film. But it doesn't hold up as well as I thought it may have. Carrey is still good and Freeman is too (as is Aniston), but somehow I wasn't as impressed by it. Too childish for sure.

Surprisingly, so did I. I guess because my expectations for it were terrible and I had pretty high expectations for this one. Seriously, the trailer for Bruce Almighty - A+
