 Hugo
Hugo Quote: Hugo is a 3D adventure drama film based on Brian Selznick's novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It is directed by Martin Scorsese and written by John Logan. It is a co-production of Graham King's GK Films and Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil. The film stars Asa Butterfield, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer and Jude Law. Hugo is called Hugo Cabret in France.
This is Scorsese’s first film shot in 3D and it was released in the US on 23 November 2011, with distribution by Paramount Pictures in the US.

 Re: Hugo
For two hours I sat there in disbelief at the thought that 1)Scorsese got 150+ million dollars to give audiences a lesson in silent cinema, a plea for film preservation, and to make an intensely personal depiction of his relationship to Michael Powell; and 2) that somebody thought children would enjoy this.
And then on the way out I heard a [roughly] nine year old say that it was the best movie he had ever seen. So, you know, I don't know.

Beautiful set designs and full of magic. Not the Scorsese we're accustomed to, but really very good. A

Yes, 3D. Scorcese uses it better than anybody else has.
It's incredible. The best film of the year, I'd say.

 Re: Hugo
Loved everything about it: the look and feel, the music, the story, and especially the homage to film history. Great to see Scorsese doing something different and still amazed at how well he did. A film lover's film, and the best film of the year. A.

I went with a bunch don't-give-a-crap-about-Scorsese-and-cinema folks and they were just as perplexed by the excursion into film history as I expected they would be. The word tossed around was "awkward"

The word tossed around was "awkward" I think they need to look up the definition of "awkward" in Webster's again.

 Re: Hugo
If I could change on element of this amazing film, I might add a flashback showing Jude Law's character and Hugo watching a movie together. Since the warmth of those outings is so integral to the characters and storyline.

 Re: Hugo
Wonderful family film and like everyone has said, this is a movie for film lovers. One of the best movies of the year.

 Re: Hugo
Only thing I'm disappointed by is that I didn't see it in 3D. This is about as good of a film about film history that I can imagine enjoying this much. A- at worst.

 Re: Hugo
Pointless complications.
The whole story of Hugo and all of it's characters are irrelevant embellishments - - there's no there, there.
Many fine actors dressed up and going nowhere in this misfire from Scorcese.
1 out of 5.
(Note: I was forced to see Hugo in Dark-o-Vision - - completely unnecessary - - the carefully composed depth of Scorcese's visuals and his patented tracking shots stand on their own without this dim gimmick.)

Trixster I think you should reexamine your opinion on this movie. When Bradley Witherberry is the only person in your corner agreeing I feel like something is wrong. lol

I still liked it, though. And I hardly need the approval of others to validate my own opinion.

 Re: Hugo
Enjoyed it quite a bit, but it didn't reach that level of love others seem to be giving it. The 3D was some of the best I've seen, however.
