Re: The Fault in Our Stars
It's Hallmark TV Channel movie presented on the big screen. They guy playing Gus is very bad IMHO. And hasn't he played Shailene's brother in Divergent?

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
It pretty much follows the book to the tee which is good and bad. Woodley does a fine job here and is the obvious standout and it does tap at the harsh realities the novel presented. However, the novel's main flaws are presented more in the film. Really, the whole visiting the author portion doesn't work in the book and the film has a hard time making sense out of it also. Honestly some editing from the book could have made this film better but in the end it's a satisfying, yet flawed adventure.

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
I agree both were flawed but the way I felt about them were a bit different than you. I wasn't totally into the book until you realized that Augustus was going to die. I found it fluffy and mildly entertaining but nothing special. It then really, really moved me. The movie had the total opposite reaction from me. I loved the first half, actually found the bit with the author worked but I found the death stuff way too cheesy, though Woodley elevated the material. They are both enjoyable but so minor. I honestly prefer the film version of If I Stay (I haven't read the book). That is one I just don't get the negative reviews.

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
I hadn't seen this since I saw it theatrically three times. Just watched the extended version tonight which was interesting. I liked seeing parts from the book that were filmed but just not in the original version of the film. I still absolutely loved this and it just further cemented itself as one of my personal favorites from last year. It's a very romantic and moving film. I really adored the characters. I don't really think there could have been a more perfect young actor to portray Augustus Waters. Ansel Elgort nailed that character and made him just as charming as I found him in the book. Woodley was also sublime here, giving her best performance so far.
Watching this again kind of makes me want to read the book again. This is a really beautiful story. I'd officially give it an A.

Overrated book, but still good. The movie is just as good, if not better.

A- I'll still take it over the glut of YA dystopian series. Green has a distinctive and appealing voice, and he generally avoids talking down to his audience.

wait
It's an overrated book, and the movie is "just as good" and gets an A-?
Sounds like the book is pretty good.
