It is the second film adaptation of the 2012 novel A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, following the 2015 Swedish film of the same name written and directed by Hannes Holm. The film will star Tom Hanks in the titular role, with Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo co-starring.
A Man Called Otto was theatrically released in the United States on December 30, 2022 in New York and Los Angeles, before a larger limited release on January 6, 2023 and then a wide release on January 13, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.

This is the ultimate movie to take your parents to. It's inoffensive, well-made, sweet and has a good balance of humor and heart. Tom Hanks is excellent and it's fairly entertaining if a bit slight. B

This was absolutely fantastic. Hilarious, heartfelt and great perfromances from the unknowns as well as Hanks. Laughed out loud more than any other film this year. Very good backstory and some nice twists and turns. Hope it doesn't bomb at the box office, they just don't make films like this anymore.

This isn't the best film I've seen in the last 5 years, but I haven't felt as good coming out of a theater since The Greatest Showman. It's genetically engineered to create amazing WOM, its a HUGE crowdpleaser.

Agreed this is a huge crowdpleaser and my audience ate it up. It's definitely going for the Marley and Me and Greatest Showman crowd and think it's set for a LONG run ahead, especially with the light holiday fare.

Re: A Man Called Otto
Too soppy and one-note for my taste. I just couldn't buy Otto being mean and grumpy. It felt disingenious, which of course it is as it's acting, but it shouldn't be. He didn't win me over. The film is quite formulaic too. Quite light and fluffy, and not as hard or quirky or dark as I think it should have been. I imagine the German original is better.
