The Muppets
The MuppetsQuote: The Muppets is a 2011 American musical and comedy film, and the first Muppets theatrical release in 12 years, as well as the first Disney-produced Muppets film since 1996's Muppet Treasure Island. In the film, Walter (performed by Peter Linz), the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and friend Mary (Amy Adams) must raise $10 million to save the Muppet Theater from Tex Richman (Chris Cooper), a businessman who plans to demolish the Muppet Theater to drill for oil. The film is directed by James Bobin, written by Segel and Nicholas Stoller, produced by Martin Baker, David Furnish, Segel, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, and John Scotti, and features Bret McKenzie as the music supervisor.
The film is being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and was released in North America on November 23, 2011 and is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on February 17, 2012. The film was first announced in March 2008 and production started in September 2010. The film premiered at the 2011 Savannah Film Festival.
The film features six new musical numbers and three classic Muppet songs which are "The Muppet Show Theme", "Rainbow Connection" and "Mah Nà Mah Nà."

Re: The Muppets
A wonderful, hilarious and heartfelt film. The final few scenes are incredibly moving and I was surprised to find myself tearing up at quite a few of them. It's incredibly obvious that this is a very personal project to Jason Segel and everyone involved, and it shows in the final product. Just infectiously fun. A-
I also feel like this will get an Oscar nod for "Life's a Happy Song." It's definitely a likely nominee at the Golden Globes for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy).

Re: The Muppets
Animal gets a ton of time. Prob below Piggy for fourth after Kermit and Fozzie. Excluding Walter.
Jason Segal leads/co-leads two songs but is otherwise bearable.

Re: The Muppets
If Frank Oz sees fit to skip this sell-out... Quote: ‘I turned it down, I wasn’t happy with the script. I don’t think they respected the characters.' ...I do too. Update: I foolishly ended up wasting my time watching this "movie", and the only word to accurately describe it's fake-voiced, sappy, grave robbing of the Muppet legacy is drivel !!! This is a purely manufactured product. From the expensive saturation advertising campaign, to the bought & paid for RT score, this is a stultifying testament to the dark power of the Disney machine.

Re: The Muppets
Please don't take quotes out of context. Here's the full interview: http://www.metro.co.uk/film/875941-the- ... ppets-awayHe mentions he turned down being in the film, not the final product. Furthermore, did it not faze your mind that Frank Oz might just be sour about the whole thing? Afterall, his script was turned down, and gee wiz, you don't think he's sour about the whole thing?

Re: The Muppets
I think Muppets from Space had more of an effect on OZ (As well as the prequels) all of the characters he created that were beloved were now punchlines. I remember him disowning that film.

Re: The Muppets
Color me disappointed. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, and it was entertaining but it was just kind of bland, partly because of Jason Segal and to a lesser extent Amy Adams. I didn't think either of them did much with their roles, though I did like the Amy Adams/Miss Piggy duet. I enjoyed the majority of the music but a lot of it just seemed out of place and I think the movie would have been better without it. The Muppets were fun as always (loved Animal!) but really... I was disappointed.
7/10
It's on the low end of the rating, it's almost a 6/10.

But the whole point of human actors in The Muppets is to smile and basically stay in the background. That's always been the case.

Re: The Muppets
The old muppets seem like supporting characters in their own movie, and it's a big problem.
There's a place for humans in a Muppet movie--obviously--but Walter is already there serving the same purpose the human characters normally do. Either he or the Segel/Adams duo needed to go. I vote for losing the former, obv. Too much of these new characters, not enough of the old.

Re: The Muppets
It's pretty self-aware and sardonic, in addition to just being a cute tale. It feels more like a tribute than a reboot, not so much a muppets movie as a movie idolizing and homaging the muppets. Either way, pleasant and funny with a little more wit and cunning than your typical good family fare.

The Muppets is a fun, exhilirating outing with the ol' gang once again. Everything comes together very well and Jason Segel along with Amy Adams are great in this. Just a whole lot of fun. ***1/2
