Quote:
The F Word (released in the US and UK as What If) is an Irish-Canadian 2013 romantic comedy film directed by Michael Dowse and scripted by Elan Mastai, based on T. J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi's play Toothpaste and Cigars. The F Word follows Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe), who becomes infatuated with a girl named Chantry (Zoe Kazan), only to discover that she's already dating another man which causes their relationship to be put in the "friend zone".

It was released at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival for its world premiere.

The film was a nominee for Best Picture at the 2nd Canadian Screen Awards, and won for Adapted Screenplay.

This was delightful. It was surprisingly hilarious (with many laugh-out-loud scenes and one-liners) and filled with great performances. All the characters had moments to shine and the witty script really made them feel like real people. Zoe Kazan and Daniel Radcliffe were adorable and had great chemistry. It's a very straightforward rom-com, which is rare in this day and age without some sort of 'twist,' but I thought it worked incredibly well. A-

Yeah I loved it. Radcliffe and Kazan perform perfectly in their roles and Adam Driver provides the biggest laughs along the way. Might be my favorite film of the year thus far.

It's pretty enjoyable. Everything is very obvious on what's going to happen, but it excels at the little moments. Daniel Radcliffe's role easily could have been very annoying, but he made it sympathetic and real.

I enjoyed it enough. It boasts an incredibly charming and charismatic performance from Daniel Radcliffe and the first two thirds of it is quite good but I thought it fell apart in the third act quite a bit. It also was too "cool hipster" movie that it got a bit grating as it went on. Still, I enjoyed myself.

Lovely little movie. I didn't really think it looked that good and would have been happy waiting to see it on Blu-ray but the really good reviews were encouraging and I like to support the smaller movies when my theater gets them. Really glad I did. It was delightful. So funny and charming and sweet. Loved Radcliffe and Kazan in it.

8/10 (A-)

A fairly charming movie. Radcliffe has been much stronger than I thought he would outside of the Potter franchise, and Zoe Kazan is a likeable co-star. Everything is indeed formulaic, and we've seen this a million times before, but it has a few nice differences that make it its own delightful movie.

It can verge dangerously close to being too "hipster" at times, while the whole "Fly to and back from Dublin" thing was a tad far-fetched. It was less romantic and more reeking of desperation, but those points don't take away too much.
