This is a very messed up movie where every character is f-ed up in some way or another. There were a few awesome scenes with bold cinematography and ultrabloodiness; the dark and murky tones certainly looked very different than anything out there. The scenes inside that couple's seemingly cozy but eerie house was shot just brillantly. A few violent action sequences were pretty bloody and exciting, but they didn't come across frequently enough. Most of the time the movie kind of drags with too many ludicrous situations happening that it became comedic, except that the tone of the movie was too serious at other times. Paul Walker gives a better performance than his other movies but it felt like a weaker performance rather than his serious turn would've actually made the film more fun to watch. The other adult actors were quite decent. The children actors were okay but nothing special. Overall it wasn't consistently appealing or enjoyable enough to give as a recommendation over other possible alternatives, although one can do a lot worse than this film. I give it a borderline C+.

OH MY GOD.
I'm still shaking. I can't catch my breath. I can't shake this film. There are moments in here that shook me to my absolute core, and I'm really not being hyperbolic.
I'll have a full review either tomorrow or Sunday, but this film is staggering. Just staggering.
If you go into this expecting a fun little action film, you will probably walk out fourty minutes in. It is so much more than that.

I don't know if that's possible. There are scenes in this film that you simply can not prepare yourself for. I don't want to spoil anything, but this one goes places that I don't think a mainstream, big studio backed film has ever gone before. You'll know it when you get there.

No. That is a brutal, brutal scene, but it's no where near the worst thing you'll find in this film.

Okay, so it's ambitious.
But, is it actually good?

Couldn't agree more. I came into this movie expecting a mere cheap, predictable action flick. The movie in realityh was more then I ever could have dreamed of. This is EASILY the most intense, not stop, kinetic, over the top film I have EVER seen. The stuff with the pedophile couple was absolutely unbelievably intense, and the film has some of the most creative violence put to film. Possibly the most suprising trip to the movies I have ever taken

Thanks for directing us to the coming soon review, it had some hilarious parts. One of the best reviews I've read in a while.

Full of spoilers though, so beware if that bothers you.

From Coming Soon:

Libs and Ross - Awesome. I think you guy's will really appreciate it. Do let me know what you think.
Oh, and that Coming Soon review is total and complete BS. The reviewer completely missed all of the underlying themes and subtexts in the film.

Hahaha, we're not even going there. I think we're going to Georgetown because we're going shopping and we want to eat dinner around there.

Go to Pizzeria Paradiso, Uno's, or Johnny Rockets! Yeah, they're all informal and cheap, butttttttt when you consider the cost of parking...
I'm going to the Majestic. It's gonna be swamped with people in line for Madea. w00t.
makeshift - Quick question. You've mentioned nothing about the screenplay. That was my main problem with House of Wax (last time we disagreed about a horror)...

Wait, this is a horror? I thought it was supposed to be an action movie.

Maybe he didn't, maybe they just aren't that important to him.
Often when I write a negative review, it's not because I don't "get it" it's just because what there is to get isn't that important.
