 Grown Ups
Grown Ups Quote: Grown Ups is an upcoming 2010 American comedy film starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider. Rock, Schneider, Spade and Sandler (as well as co-star Tim Meadows) all joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in the 1990-91 season. Sandler and Fred Wolf wrote the script and Dennis Dugan is directing. The film is produced by Sandler's production company Happy Madison and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming commenced in Southborough, Massachusetts on May 18, 2009, but most of the filming was done at Chebacco Lake in Essex, Massachusetts and at Water Wizz at Wareham, Massachusetts, as well as some scenes shot in Marblehead, Massachusetts on the exclusive Marblehead Neck. It is set to be released on June 25, 2010. Adam Sandler has made films with the other four male leads, but all five have never appeared in the same movie until now.

 Re: Grown Ups
As aspected from this bunch, there's several rich patches of hearty laughs in Grown Ups.
Unfortunately, it suffers from some seriously clunky writing and an instant 20% deficit with Chris Rock. That's the second time I've seen him this year after Death at a Funeral, and both times he stunk the movie out with his bad acting - - Youch! Despite the great work he's done in stand-up and sketch comedy, Chris Rock just plain don't translate to film. So with that 20% off, Grown Ups can only rate a 4 out of 5 max - - but with that half lousy script, I gotta rate this one: 2.5 out of 5 so far...
But one thing that slightly saves Grown Ups is some o' dat fine lady actin' - - great choice of old gals! So the women add a full 0.5 uptick to my score. This movie's for a definite older skewing demo, who want a little bittersweet humor (heavy on the sweet) in their mass entertainment this summer - - so come on out undiscerning oldtimers and belly up to the trough for some of Hollywood's finest slop.
3 out of 5.

This wasn't good. A few decent laughs, but otherwise pretty lame.
Agreed with bradley on Chris Rock.

Out of all the KJer's, I think I agree with Michael A's film reviews more than almost anyone (except maybe MovieDude and Shack) - - he has very good taste in film. So it's quite surprising to see him write something as stupid as the above. I wonder what the psychological motivation behind it could be?

 Re: Grown Ups
I was laughing my ass off the whole time. Not a single bad laugh and a weak finale, but a lot of little lines throughout had me cracking up. Today I honestly don't remember a lot of the jokes, but I know I had a good time watching it. B+

Though it is stupid, since Chris Rock is a bad actor, but when thrust among the likes of Sandler, Spade & Schneider, well, they're all about on par, so there's your motivation. On the other hand you did point out the Death at a Funeral comparison where most of the actors were African Americans so it could cancel my first point about his motivation, but then he'd just be stupid.

 Re: Grown Ups
Grown Ups doesn't do anything with its wide comedic cast and resorts to poop jokes and humor resorting to the usual 10-year-old. The entire cast seems like they are having fun and for them to do so with this material is sad. If the annoying bitchy kids weren't on board in this film, then the reunion-esque feel could of worked and been solid material for this group of actors. Though when kids are along in a comedy, the humor automatically goes down. There are too many predictable jokes (that are somehow supposed to be funny) along the way as well as typical climaxes and scenarios. This film is one of the worst from every actor involved and a disgrace. *

 Re: Grown Ups
I caught myself watching this at the gym while running on the treadmill. I laughed a couple of times; attributed it to mild delirium induced by dehydration. Quickly changed the channel.
Please be the delirium. Oh GOD please be the delirium! I laughed at a Kevin James falling-down joke. I must round up some goats and offer a holocaust onto Him to restore the Covenant of not-laughing-at-lazy-and-easy-jokes.

 Re: Grown Ups
I remember that I saw it during its second weekend, that I initially gave it a C+ for whatever reason, and that I had forgotten everything else about it within less than a week.
Inconveniently, that means I forgot that awesome cliffhanger at the end that totally necessitated the sequel we're getting in July...

If you saw Chris Rock on Louie, you would disagree.

 Re: Grown Ups
He did. But you can see potential in him. I'm not going to judge his film acting on an Adam Sandler comedy.

Is it the only "silly" Sandler film you've seen? Because honestly, it's not that bad.

 Re: Grown Ups
I really don't see how. What exactly are you expecting from a Sandler comedy. I personally think it has a much higher rewatchability than films like Mr. Deeds, Chuck and Larry, Click, Little Nicky, J&J, my son, and Bedtime stories.

Grown Ups wasn't really good, but I have seen several worse Sandler films.

I mean... it was a typical family film. It wasn't worse than any of those.
