An empty and often dull film. Despite a strong performance by Paul Bettany and a handful of hilarious, Sam Raimi-esque horror sequences (a welcome reprieve from the ponderous spiritual content), Legion fails to captivate or frighten. Long, faux-"intense" conversations (on faith, on the paper-thin characters' pasts) bore. The Matrix-style angel vs. angel fight sequences are incoherent and laughable. And, to be honest, I felt the film failed to capitalize on the atmospheric potential of its rural desert, last-stop-in-50-miles setting.

It also must be said: this film involves a supreme being who comes to our plane of existence via a burst of energy to protect a mousy waitress who is pregnant with humanity's future savior. He must protect this woman and her unborn child from another malevolent supreme being. Hasta la vista, originality, right?

Yes, script wise and a strong part acting wise, Legion is really bad. However if you take that away, it really is a wonderful campy fun film. It's not something that I'll praise for years to come but I can definitely see myself buying this and re-watching it over and over for how ridculous it is. **1/2

4/10 -> D

The plot is stolen from everything they've managed to get their hands on and they've added nothing new. It's not a boring movie, but it's just kinda dull and bad. It never manages to be frightening/atmospheric nor does it get that camp vibe it could've had. Characters are pretty annoying. With a better script this could've been a decent movie.

This movie enters the category of "So bad,it's good".

At the very most, it's better than Priest.

One of the worst movies of last year. To its credit though, it's absolutely hilarious. D.

Legion

The first 50 minutes had some momentum, something worthy of entertainment, but after that it was terribly cliched and kind of silly. The acting all around was bad, including Dennis Quaid. Paul Bettany did an ok job but he only had to stand there and utter words on three occasions. There were countless occasions when the baby could have been killed, but they were overlooked by dumb-ass brainwashed bodies or the Archangel Gabriel. At the end (after tons of other missed opportunities), why didn't Gabriel just push them both off the cliff? He showed mercy to the mother of the baby, but when he gets the child everyone is going to die anyway, so I don't see the point in asking for the child. And then God changed his mind and sent Bettany back to save the day. It was pretty shit. Although the scene with the old grandma was good (but could have been done better if it weren't for bad camera work and a sloppy directors vision). I also liked the gangly ice-cream truck driver, but these characters are not utilised. They just die. Then the enemies become shooting targets. Oh, and there's a lot of talking in the middle of the film when there could have been attacks.

This movie was basically a remake of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, even down to specific scenes; Paul Bettany (Arnie) arrives from another dimension, cuts off his wings, finds clothes, guns and transport, then finds the baby (John Connor) that needs protecting, fights ensue when the evil Gabriel (T-1000) comes for the baby, Bettany dies in the diner (metal pole through T-800's endoskeleton in the steel plant), Gabriel is just about to get the baby as the mother (Sarah Connor) is cornered, but wait a minute, the hero, Bettany (Arnie), arrives again to save the day. It's just angels instead of robots.

I hated how all of the action was in the dark. This seems to be a trend with movies nowadays. Does it keep costs down (less lighting?) or just disguise how shit the movie's standards really are?
