 Nashville
Nashville Quote: Nashville is a 1975 American musical black comedy film directed by Robert Altman. A winner of many awards, selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, Nashville is generally considered to be one of Altman's best films.
The film takes a snapshot of people involved in the country music and gospel music businesses in Nashville, Tennessee. It has 24 main characters, an hour of musical numbers, and multiple storylines. The characters' efforts to succeed or hold on to their success are interwoven with the efforts of a political operative and a local businessman to stage a concert rally before the state's presidential primary for a populist outsider running for president of the United States on the Replacement Party ticket. In the film's final half-hour, most of the characters come together at the outdoor concert at the Parthenon in Nashville.
The large ensemble cast includes David Arkin, Barbara Baxley, Ned Beatty, Karen Black, Ronee Blakley, Keith Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Robert DoQui, Shelley Duvall, Allen Garfield, Henry Gibson, Scott Glenn, Jeff Goldblum, Barbara Harris, David Hayward, Michael Murphy, Allan F. Nicholls, Cristina Raines, Bert Remsen, Lily Tomlin, Gwen Welles, and Keenan Wynn.
It used a similar technique as Paramount's other film Vertigo, 20th Century Fox's two films (The Little Princess and The Girl Can't Help It) and RKO's The Boy with Green Hair, presenting the opening Paramount logo in black-and-white, and the entire film, including the closing Paramount logo, in living color.

 Re: Nashville
Probably Robert Altman's finest work. The acting was all around wonderfull, somewhat of a staple among Altman films. Lily Tomlin and Ronee Blakley shine, but many others are not far behind them, including Geraldine Chaplin and Henry Gibson. I love ensemble character pieces like this and it's safe to say this is among the very best.

 Re: Nashville
Iove it to the very end, which shocked me the first time I saw the film. There's a socio-political aspect to it that appeals to me greatly. The way by which Altman weaved together such fine pictures out of thin air is still something of a mystery to me.I prefer Gosford Park and Short Cuts over it but Nashville is without a doubt one of Robert Altman's very best pictures he ever gave us.

 Re: Nashville
That ending is a real punch in the gut.
I prefer 3 Women and The Long Goodbye, but this is still a masterful work.
