PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS
I was looking forward to watching this ever since the previews. The main star, Logan Lerman, is good in this role and has been getting more roles and that's cool as he's one of those actors whose career you'll want to follow. The film started off kind of slowly for me but as soon as he learns about his true background things really pick up. During his training, we meet up with the female part of his team and she's very pretty. She has really nice face and I liked her performance too. Alot of the comic relief came from Percy's protector the satyr. He was good too. I liked all the presentation of mythological creatures like the harpy, the minotaur, medusa (kind of), the hydra (really nice), hell hounds and the look of Hades and the underworld was cool too. I'm a sucker for mythology themed things so I welcomed all that with open arms. The visual effects in the film were well done and the story was fine and acting well enough. I hope they continue this series.
Grade - B

This would have been a total failure if not for
1. Logan Lerman 2. Rosario Dawson's 'and WHAT!?' 3. The comic tone was good too, make it felt like not to be taken seriously

Re: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
I walked in just as Percy Jackson won capture the flag at Camp Demigod. I really don't feel like anything important happened beforehand. The episodic structure is flimsy but did allow for a bunch of fun action scenes. The best humor was unintentional, because the dialogue was absolutely dire - T - after decapitating Medusa, Percy says "Head's up!"

While the plot was nothing too special, it's ultimately better than the last two overhyped Potter flicks cause it didn't have less than 60 seconds worth of action and visuals to care about. Wouldn't mind seeing Percy Jackson 2.

The effects and art direction were such a mixed bag. Some looked terrific, others downright cheap (like the whole Camp Half-Blood)

I expect such films to have loads of action and decent story. For me it delivered. B+ The potter films have become really boring now.

I saw the film with my subordinate. Even he was not fooled into thinking this one were anything but a cheap way of making money.

Cuarón, however, beat Columbus to death.

hmm how does Harold hide number of posts and joined date? weird...
while i liked the movie, it's biggest setback was having Columbus for the director. the man just has no eye for the visuals, no style whatsoever. I am hoping a sequel is made with someone else.

This was one of the worst movies I've seen in theaters, honestly. Just horrendous.

Re: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
5/10 -> C-
It's not completely bad, but it's overly infantile and it completely fails in joining the two worlds. Something that HP did brilliantly in the books and slightly less good in the movies, but still very believable for a fantasy flick.
The actors all do a good job, but the script and everything feels too been there done that.

I thought it was solid. Logan Lerman is very likable in the lead. I hope they make the others into movies.
