 Re: The Proposal
Listen, there is nothing original here. In fact, they really cramped almost every romantic comedy cliche into the movie. But the thing is that here it all works. And it works wonderfully. The premise is great with Bullock as the bitch from hell boss and Renolds as the sensitive secretary both of whom "were not supposed to fall in love." This is Renolds movie though. He has great coming timing, a body to die for, and plays the sensitive type perfectly. If he doesn't become a leading man after this, I don't know what will make him one (other than the Deadpool spin off). Bullock is for me finally not annoying. She's a great power bitch here and her coming emotionally apart is touching and believable. And Betty White. So glad to see her here. Just funny.

I really enjoyed this. I just love Sandra and I agree that the film is unexpectedly emotional. the only criticism is that there are quite a few scenes that were completely unnecessary and beyond ridiculous even for this movie. The spirit dancing scene was embarrassing for Bullock and Betty White.

 Re: The Proposal
The Proposal is expectedly formulaic, but it contains a lot of funny material as well as the essential element that makes a romantic comedy work: chemistry. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have a lot of it in this film, and both actors are at their most appealing here. In a nice surprise, arguably the two funniest scenes in the film aren't spoiled by the previews, which is a pleasant change. A top-notch supporting cast, lead by the incomparable Betty White, is also solid. You know what you're going to get with this movie...but it's very cute and does what it aims to do well. B+

 Re: The Proposal
a very formulaic romantic comedy propelled by two very strong lead performances, namely Ryan Reynolds, who has a bright future ahead of him. If only the supporting characters weren't all so boring and clichéd, and the ending wasn't so damn predictable. I know romantic comedies are supposed to be predictable, to an extent, but there's gotta be a way to both surprise and please people when it comes to this genre. But yeah, it's cute.

 Re: The Proposal
I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed. I'm not shocked because this isn't my kind of movie, but disappointed. It looked good and it seemed like Reynolds and Bullock would have chemistry. And that's kind of the problem. When they don't get along, they do and the film works. When they do get along, they don't and the film suffers. As a matter of fact once they landed in Alaska the film just stopped working for me. It just stopped being funny. I also couldn't buy into the progression of how they start to fall for one another. It seemed like they only had feelings for one another just because the script said so. Nothing feels particularly natural with the film. Again, that doesn't shock me considering the genre, but it would've been nice if it could've bucked the trend.

 Re: The Proposal
Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds may not seem like two actors that would not be a good combo on screen, but they do work very well here. The jokes are spot on and don't feel rushed. It also has a very heartfelt ending at the end that just makes the film all the more memorable. The supporting cast is great as well especially the always enjoyable Betty White. One of the better romantic comedies of the last few years. A-
Oh and the "Get Low" scene by far got the best reaction and was so, so hilarious!

THE PROPOSAL - 8/10 (B+ or A-)
Very funny, sweet, and touching. Bullock and Reynolds were great and had wonderful chemistry. It's one of the better mainstream romantic comedies in recent memory. It's nothing new, but works perfectly well and it's nice to see Bullock back in the romantic comedy genre.
BTW, the "chanting" scene was hilarious! Easily the funniest part in the movie.

 Re: The Proposal
As everybody else said... it has the rom-com formula down pat - the romance built on a lie, the reveal of the lie, the character that becomes a better person in the process, and even the rush to the airport to confess the love. I love how every rom-com ends with some massive rush to let the other know exactly how they feel. It's always an artificial feeling rush, as if this person could never be contacted again.
However, Bullock, Reynolds, and White really make the movie enjoyable to watch - despite the fact you've seen it all before. As standard rom-coms go, it's about as good as one could possibly be that doesn't star Kate Beckinsale (ie, Serendipity). So, I'll go with a B-

 Re: The Proposal
I'll edit this later but I just want to say for now, movie is hilarious, Bullock is much funnier than I expected, White is a scene stealer, and watching reynolds totally naked for a few seconds was just breath-taking. Love this movie despite its formulaic plot and unambitious themes.

Yeah, even though I've seen him naked before, I still appreciated the nude shot of Ryan . Yummy! And Bullock was really great. I loved watching her around the office in the beginning.

 Re: The Proposal
saw it. felt it fell short of true greatness. It just never added anything but was passing good.
I also liked the office scenes that no one has mentioned. Also I always have liked Crait T Nelson so nice to see him on the screeen. And Mrs Ted Danson, Mary S was OK.

I don't specifically remember the question(s) it ended on, but it didn't lead up to any specific point and there was no final verdict. Also, I did stay all the way through the credits, and there was nothing at the very end.

 Re: The Proposal
Not really that funny, and it doesn't help that you're rooting against the romance right from the start. Maybe if they'd made Sandra Bullock more appealing.
Rather lame, even as chick flicks go.

I was rooting for the romance the whole time. I found it sweet . I didn't think Bullock's character was all that unappealing. I also agree with Grill about the office scenes. I highly enjoyed them myself.
