 Fame (1980)
Fame Quote: Fame is a 1980 American musical film conceived and produced by David De Silva, directed by Alan Parker, screenplay by Christopher Gore and musical score by Michael Gore. The film follows a group of students through their studies at the New York High School of Performing Arts (which later merged with the High School of Music and Art to become the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts). The film is split into sections corresponding to auditions, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. The film ranked number 42 on Entertainment Weekly's 2006 list of the "50 Best High School Movies".
The film has spawned a television series and spin-off, a stage musical, and a 2009 film remake.

6/10 -> C
Surprisingly, musical numbers take a lot of minutes that could've gone into more adequate character portrayals which was necessary. It's a good movie with glitches of being an excellent one. Too bad it never forays harder into problems characters are being thrown into. It all seems sporadic.

Not sure if the movie meant to do this but the movie was followed very quickly by a very successful tv series that ran for 6/7 years.

 Re: Fame (1980)
I know about the TV show and I'm pretty sure they didn't think they'd do a movie first then series. Especially considering the movie runs through all four years and ends with them graduating.

 Re: Fame (1980)
B+
I have seen this a couple of months after watching the remake and, man, this is so much better. It lacks the glossy style and the flashy cinematography of the first, but it makes up for that with much better executed storylines, a better cast and simply a groovier mood. It definitely feels very "early 80s" - but in a good way.
Some of the problems I had with it were the same I had with the first movie. Due to following so many storylines it feels disjointed at times and some plots are better than others. But ultimately it is a satisfying look at those young people's lives and a far far more complete and inspirational film than the remake ever was. Kudos to Alan Parker.
