I actually think Surrogates or Sherlock Holmes might take the crown.

Dam, the Expendables can't come soon enough!

Surrogates looks boring.

Sherlock holmes is okay.

I am pretty confident that D9 and AVATAR will have the best action this year.

D9's last 30 or so minutes is the best action this year, hands down.

But this contradicts my TF2 statement.

But this statement is the true one. It kicks all kinds of ass.

G.I. Joe is the best sci-fi movie of the 2009!

... which of course, says a lot about the year, but also says a great deal about this fine film.

And I know there'll be those who say that it's just an American knock-off of Gerry Anderson's classic Thunderbirds series.

...but this turns out to be one first rate b-movie sci-fi melodramedy!!!

Top ten status conferred.

23 out of 5.

Its goofy as all hell but in the end thats what makes it work. I'm with ya all the way up till here...

Well I would agree its a very fictional type of war, sort of like the ideal war in the mind of a 9 year old. What Sommers was aiming for I'll bet.

TF2 was fun but incredibly stupid, G.I Joe was the furthest thing from entertaining and even more stupid. The film should be flat out insulting to anyone with even the slighest amount of intelligence.

I almost liked it. It's stupid, but appropriately tongue-in-cheek and funny. Unfortunately, it's way too long and the climax is a letdown.

It's obscenely better than Transformers 2, though! You can kinda tell what's happening in the action scenes. And that's always nice.

Transformers 2 was a bigger letdown than The Matrix sequels. Not that Transformers 1 was anywhere near the Matrix 1, but that Transformers 2 was just so irredeemable and made 0 effort whatsoever to do anything new from the first film.

Transformers 2 WAS a retelling of Transformers 1 without any of the fun or charm of the first one and a shitload more useless action scenes where you had no idea what was actually happening.

The Matrix sequels were self-congratulatory nonsense that revelled in subtext so much that they became smug examples of directors too masturbatory in the greatness of their concept, to the extent that it became dull and contrived to it's audience. But there were a number of redeemable points about it, specifically the addition of one or two interesting new characters and the scope of some action sequences.

However, both The Matrix sequels and Transformers 2 have proven that the ethos of MORE SHIT HAPPENING, BIGGER FIGHT SCENES and MORE FUCKING EXPLOSIONS is not the way to create a great sequel. The most successful parts of both movies were shorter, well thought out action sequences that were visually breathtaking without being fake.

No need for motherfucking 1,000 agent smiths, actually.

My o my. Not just 'bad'. This also feels like something from 1998 (~10 years ago).

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

3/10 -> D-

It's humorless. Not a single joke (one-liners mostly, which probably make out 70% of the "dialogue") works. Maybe because not a single actor here has a decent line delivery. The cheap costumes don't help either.

The action sequences are boring and the effects are bad.

The plot is way over the top. It doesn't have a focus (did every character really need it's own flashback??? It's not like they were great or made the characters better.), the characters are all connected like in some bad Spanish telenovela, the twist are right out of the 1995 edition of "How to write a summer blockbuster movie".

Seriously, this movie is insulting.

Yeah this was disappointing. The trailer looked fantastic when it came out a year ago, but the film itself was flat and extremely B grade. I dont but the so bad its good either. It did have some nice eye candy (Miller looked better than she really is and the redhead was hot), the Paris sequence was fun - but everything else was kind of been there done that. Much better than Transformers 2 but not a Transformers 1 which left us wanting more. Its likeable enough but not as good as it could have been.

Grade : C+

So I'm flipping channels and I land on what I presume is the third act of this movie and... Holy shiz. I can't stop laughing at this. Particularly the flashback to the dojo where they use flags as wipe cuts and JGL's EVIL voice. Oh, and how the sound editing is such that his delivery is never in sync. WTF was he thinking?
