Terra [Battle for Terra]
Battle for TerraQuote: Battle for Terra, originally screened as Terra, is a 2007 computer animated science fiction film, based on a short film of the same name about a peaceful alien planet which faces destruction from colonization by the displaced remainder of the human race. The film was directed by Aristomenis Tsirbas who conceived it as a hard-edged live action feature with photo-real Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) environments. The close collaboration with producing partner and investor Snoot Entertainment redirected the project to become fully animated and appeal to younger audiences. The film features the voices of Evan Rachel Wood, Brian Cox, Luke Wilson, Amanda Peet, Dennis Quaid and Justin Long among others.
It premiered on September 8, 2007 at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was widely released in the United States on May 1, 2009. The film was originally shot in 2D but was made so that a second camera could be added to the film. After the film was shown at festivals and distributors showed an interest in it a small team was hired to render the entire film again from the perspective of the second camera for a true 3D effect.
It won the Grand Prize for Best Animated Feature at the 2008 Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Re: Terra
For consistency sake, we're going with original titles, so - Terra, Star Wars, and so on. Plus, IMDB has them this way too.

Not sure why you think it is a big deal, so whatever you decide... but this seems confusing not to add anything else to it like the changed name or the year. > Battle for Terra (known as Terra before a name-change for the 2009 US release) is a 2007.... PS> Would we still be using the original names if the name was changed completely > for example > BATTLE!

Re: Terra
Let's be honest here: Anyone really think moviegoers are going to see this movie over WOLVERINE this weekend?? The studio was dumb for putting this out against WOLVERINE and even worst, they just started marketing this like 3 days ago.. I've never even heard of this before Monday until G4TV showed a clip.. BOMB!!!!

Re: Terra
It's called dumping, BKB, they have a movie on their template they have to release and don't know where to put it, they dump it somewhere, in this case, alongside Wolverine. They know it won't do well no matter what, so they just let it fall here without anybody really noticing.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Re: Terra
It annoys me to no end that this isn't titled Battle For Terra. That's the US title, and what most here will know it as. It's going to make finding this thread nearly impossible in the future for people who aren't aware that it's listed under Terra. It could at least say Battle For Terra (Terra) or something like that.

Well I guess NEBS just does what he feels like as there have been exceptions on the board when additional info is needed. And these are just 3 examples of like 20 on the first couple of pages. Poll: L'Eclisse [The Eclipse] Poll: Twilight (2008) Poll: Sin Nombre [Without Name]

Re: Terra
This is possibly the balliest movie Pixar never made.
Its...
pro conservation anti-religion anti-war anti-technology pro-suicide bombing pro characters looking like sperms with penis's for heads, you get to see them also swarm around a model of the human mothership that looks like an egg!
You even get an re-enactment of the Abraham and Issac test and the human fighters look like crucifix's from a distance. Oh and the human Oxygen machine looks like a black widow spider injected with extra evil badass.
No wonder this movie was dumped it likely terrifed the distributors with its themes.

Re: Terra
What a terrible release strategy - - I curse the distributors who never brought this film to my local Xatar theatres!

Re: Terra
I liked it Felix, but after watching it I understood why it was dumped and poor quality wasn't the reason.

Re: Terra
I liked it. It was quite dark for a kids movie. Of course it's not Pixar quality but it would be interesting to see Pixar do a PG-13 type film

Re: Terra
Battle for Terra is nothing more than the usual sci-fi/save your planet film. The plot is very generic ranging from Terra being attacked to trying to connect with the humans to the humans wanting to take over the planet. The animation is nothing to proclaim about as it is very basic 3D animation and even the way the humans are made is way too simple and almost seems as if it took the design from Planet 51 or vice-versa. The voice work is good however with the strongest point being from Evan Rachel Wood. The film's very short 79-minute running time fits the film though not much really happens. If the film was headed by a better team, it could have been much better. *1/2
