Re: (500) Days of Summer
Mmmm, my new favorite movie of the year. Easily the most creative "romantic" comedy I've ever seen. Everything felt so real, the characters, the situations, etc. The movie was a lot like Summer though, very fun and moved on quickly being on 95 minutes long.

Re: (500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer is not the typical romantic film you see today. In fact it isn't as stated in the beginning that "this is not a love story". Tom's idea of the dream girl he sees within Summer is something any man can relate to though the film really tackles the delusion that follows and how you can be so wound up in the moment that you may miss what is really happening. While Tom may fall down this road, Summer isn't out of the clear either as her own delusion of not being in a "relationship" is keeping her mind away from whatever advantages there may be during her time with Tom. The film is so unique in its telling of the story as well. It takes both sides of the story, the good and the bad, and pieces it in such a way that the audience can really grasp why certain events occurred and can be easily related to events in the viewer's own life. The story is one of the most unique for the genre. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel have the great chemistry needed for this film. When they hit it off, they hit it off and when there is trouble, they make it work in a noticeable light. Levitt even shines a bit ahead of Deschanel at times as he really captures the person who can easily be loved but also that tries not to let go. If anything he should of been the one to win the Best Actor (Comedy or Musical) award other than Robert Downey Jr. Marc Webb's direction is one with little flaws and can add plenty of comedy and pleasure to the film especially in a dance sequence within the film's first act. The film also has a very strong and beautiful score from Mychael Danna. (500) Days gets everything right and leaves a mark even the day after watching that is just as strong as when the credits rolled. ****

Re: (500) Days of Summer
The movie wouldn't have made much sense if Summer ended up with Tom. After all, it was never a love story.
Oh, and I loved this very much.

Re: (500) Days of Summer
My single lingering issue with this movie is the final scene. Tom's "revival"--moving on, pursuing his dream--is enough. The character of Autumn is a step too far.

Re: (500) Days of Summer
Ya know, I just heard a co-worker mentioning how a child that was with her granddaughter in daycare is named Winter. Oh dear.
