I can't remember ever being dragged into my chair like the time I first saw The Fugitive in the movie theatre. It is exciting from start to finish and never lets you out of its grip. Andrew Davis has a few skeletons in his closet, but here his direction really shines. It isn't hard though, since he had Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford at the top of their game. I never got why they gave Jones the Oscar yet failed to nominate Harrison Ford who owns every second of the film. Also, the bits of humor in the movie are great (Jones asking his black colleague whether he is irish, which he answers with something like "no the black hair is natural") A+

Very good movie, wasn't it nominated for Best Picture? If it was, it deserved the sucessful box-office film. very good action movie.

Tommy Lee Jones at his best, its a shame he hasn't been very close to that since then.

A very good thriller that desered most of the (somewhat surprising?) accolades it received.

Excellently done action-thriller, with fantastic performances and a compelling story. Though it's basically a 'running man' tale, the conspiracy angle adds a much-needed twist, plus the production quality is great enough to overcome any brief shortcomings in the familiar story. Incredibly rewatchable, mostly because of the Oscar-worthy performances by both leads. Great music, too.

I love TNT, no matter how many times this movie is on, if I catch it, I'll watch it. Truly one of the best exciting thrillers of all time. I agree with Levy, how they would nominate and Give Jones an Oscar, and not even nominate Ford. Though when your up against films like Schindler's list that year, its understandable that it didnt win best picture, though a nomination would have been just as good. The shot of Ford leaping from the bus when the train hits, and of course the Peter Pan off the dam, is truly filmmaking of tense moments at their finest. And Jones really is amazing in the film that forever typecasted him.

A+

I just bought and watched this for the first time, and wow have I missed out. What a great movie! Jones and Ford do a great job. The plot and script are well written, and hell basically everything is great about this film. Through the whole movie I was on the edge of my seat and wanted to know what would happen. Definetely in my top 25. A+

Thats an awesome review for being a 13 year old movie. People can say that Ford has fallen into a niche of characters these days, but anyone that doubts he was a great actor needs to go watch some more Colin Farrell movies, where shit blows up.

Arnold and Sly are great action heroes. Their characters are always larger than life. Rambo and Rocky are household names and The Terminator and films like Commando are great partly because of Arnold's physical presence. But as good as they are, I don't think they can hold a candle to Harrison Ford. Sure he is in great shape, but have you ever seen an actor take average guys and make them so real that you want to know them? Take your pick, Han Solo, Indy and even his character in Six Days and Seven Nights was an adventurer. Add Richard Kimble to that list. As Kimble, Ford is perfect. He is the wronged man that has to avenge his wife's death and clear his name at the same time. He is so great in this film and I'm sure that's why so many people went to see this film at first. But I think what kept them coming back was Tommy Lee Jones. We'll get to him in a minute.

Andrew Davis proved here that he is one of the best action directors in the business today. Along with Under Siege, he showed us that he is an efficient artist that knows how to keep the action flowing. He never seems to let up with his relentless pursuit of the perfect scene. But since the film did so well and everyone pretty much knows what it is about, let's talk about the true strength of the film, and that would be Tommy Lee Jones.

" I don't bargain." " Well that's odd!"

His portrayal of Samuel Girard is an exercise in how to make the audience relate and understand a character. He starts off as a manic perfectionist. He is obsessed with capturing Kimble and that is all that matters. But as the film proceeds, you can sense his unease, his wonder and his ethos. You can tell by a simple expression that he is beginning to solve a crime and not just chase a criminal. And the turning point to me was his simple scene where he says " You know Devlin and McGregor made 4 and one half billion dollars last year? That company's a monster. " It is all in his face. He knows that Ford is innocent but he still has a job to do. It is Jones that makes this film so much fun. And I didn't think that there would be a more worthy recipient of best supporting actor in '93 than Kilmer in Tombstone, but Jones' work here was well deserving of his Oscar.

The Fugitive belongs on every top 100 list and if the AFI wasn't so enthralled with older movies, they would see that films like this are more worthy than some of the mediocrity that graces their findings. This is an incredible film.

It's a great thriller, but I'm not sure if it was good enough to get a Best Picture nomination. Ditto for Tommy Lee Jones, he was really good, but still didn't seem like anything more than the stereotypical cop. The whole movie seemed pretty straight forward, I'm not going to use the word generic, but it's not like I haven't seen movies exactly like this before. So yeah, I can't agree with you guys on the masterpiece and one of the best films ever tags, sorry to burst everyones bubble.

I'm with Shack. This was really fun (That train crash - hot damn!), but it dragged a little once they got into the whole conspiracy thing. Still quite awesome, I can see why so many people love it.

I saw this as a 15 year old back in 1993 and became a real film fan because of it. Great film, deserved its oscar nominations and wins aswellas all the $$ it raked in. Ford and Jones at their best.

Grade: A+

Watched it today for the first time in eons. Still exciting and funny and really admirable in its no-fat, to-the-point efficiency in storytelling and style. Great stuff.

The film gets a lot of disrespect in that aspect because of its being based on a TV show, and its an excellent thriller. But the acting, direction, writing, and score are all top notch in almost all categories.

Re-watched this earlier in the year and it's a very good thriller. Ford and Lee Jones are both in top form, it's quite a delicious display of hunter and hunted. On top of that it's a slickly directed whodunit and it has that nice 90's feel to it too. I agree with Shack though, that I don't feel it's a special kind of masterpiece the academy nominations might indicate, but it certainly is highly watchable.
