I really liked it. It sure had some flaws, but I had a good time. Phoenix is really good here. Very likeable. B+

My main flaw with this movie would that it would of been better told if it wasnt in flashback sequences. It sort of jumps over the places and they place too many pranks in the scenes to showcase us that they are just normal guys doing an everyday job. The movie would of been much better with some crisp editing and told in chronological order as opposed to basically give away the ending from the beginning scene. With that in mind, it works somewhat in the emotional level but I believe the same thing was established in another movie called Deer Hunter. What makes Backdraft work was not only were they able to establish the movie in a good emotional level but that there was alot of politics and drama behind the scenes
Not as good as Backdraft but I still recommend it

My favorite fire fighter movie ever. I really liked this the first time, but on a repeat viewing I was really blown away by how much the movie affected me. Personally, I didn't mind the flashbacks, it was much like another favorite of mine, The Wood. One of the reasons I might have loved the movie so much was the camaraderie between the firehouse, since its that same comradeship that I have among my friends, and I value it more then practically anything. Almost everyone one of the performances moved me, and the entire film felt extremely realistic and down to earth. It does get somewhat sappy, but it's a firefighter movie, what do you expect? As a movie it's an A-, but I'd rate it as a very high A on my favorites list.

Quite an average film. I was disappointed with it. There wasn't really much of a plot. Just a career in the life of a firefighter. Backdrfaft was much more entertaining.

It's a well-made movie that unfortunately drags from time to time due to tons of flashbacks that kind of take the suspense out of the whole thing. Nonetheless, I was surprised that the movie turned out to be much less boring and dull than I originally expected. Travolta and Phoenix both do a good job. I am also glad that they didn't go for a sappy happy ending, but went with a more realistic one. Also, I could mostly connect to it on an emotional level as well.

Tedious, terribly acted, overconstructed, bad action. In other words: No Backdraft.

so backdraft had some nice display of pyrotechnics, and what else? a cliched story about the bonds of brotherhood, character motivations that border on the absurd from a psychoanalytical point of view (like the baldwin character wanting to become the greatest of all firefighters after witnessing his father going down in flames as a child. wtf?), and robert deniro in one of his most unthankful roles as the forensic examinator dude: "it's a living thing, brian. it breathes, it eats, and it hates. the only way to beat it is to think like it...". a truly memorable ron howard film.

Utterly pointless and inane. The film never rises above its sappiness, and it chocked full of it. Emotionally, it feels fake, and it never comes close to the level of exciting during the action scenes. The acting is dull and the story is boring. Not my cup of tea.

Pretty great movie actually. When I saw it I had low expectations, as I'd heard some bad things about it, but it surprised me. The emotional touch was pretty strong.

An average movie. Nothing great or exceptional and I hated the ending, but it was okay.
