 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
Shoot 'Em Up starts off with a bang... Or a carrot. The whole movie was ridiculous but in a great funny way. It felt like I was watching a GrindHouse movie. Clive Owen kicks major ass while being funny with his cheesy lines. I give the movie a [b]B+[b]

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
I loved this movie. It's so awesome. Easily the best "pure" action movie of the year (this excludes things like The Bourne Ultimatum), better than LFODH and Transformers.

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
One of the worst movies I have ever seen, and easily 2007's cinematic nadir.
Only two things amused: the tank, and the 'running over of the baby.'
This was pathetic.

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
I keep going back and forth on this... is it one of the worst movies I've ever seen or just a harmless diversion that never amounts to anything?
Either way, it's certainly not a good movie, and definitely not worth anyone's time. It has no consistent style or vision, it's needlessly gross and offensive, it think it's much more clever than it actually is, etc...

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
Ridiculous.
...and I mean this in the best possible sense of the word.
An extraordinary movie that amps out on all gun action with an all breast thematic overlay -- yup, folks - - it's an all dicks & tits spectacular!
Shoot 'Em Up is this year's Crank, only moreso...
The only weak spot in this exemplary picture show, was the blandness of Monica Bellucci - - Yow! She stinks!!! And worse, doesn't even look hot enough to justify her lapse!!!!!
Clive Owen, proves himself once again, bulletproof in his choice of roles, and Paul Giamatti continues what must be the luckiest streak for a mere character actor in the whole dang history of Hollywood. The director, Michael Davis, as far as I know, popped up out of nowhere. So the mysterious birth of this orphilm is all the more miraculous because of it's iffy parentage.
Anyways, if you're planning to see this film, all's I can suggest is... don't forget to ask yourself:
"Did you cock your gun?!?"
18 out of 5.

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
I loved every second of it. The film is clever (Even though it knows it's very clever), funny and very bloody. My only small complaint is that I just wish the violence was a little more cartoonish, like Kill Bill or something along those lines. I think the film picked up on some of the cartoonish violence towards the end when limbs break and fly, but it's not really bloody for the first half of the film.
I also really enjoyed Owen and Giamatti. It looks like they had a lot of fun making the film and it shows, especially with Giamatti.

My friend and I walked out 20 minutes in. He hated it a lot more than I did, but if I finish it on anything but DVD it'll because September is such a slow month.

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
This was a very entertaining Action Comedy. It never takes itself seriously, and the action choreography was very creative. It should have been a big hit if it was marketed right.

 Re: Shoot 'Em Up
Ok so I saw the whole thing, and it was much better with friends who have a better sense of humor. That's not to say that the film has one above an elementary school level, but hearing buddies laugh at it rather than groan really helped, because at best Shoot 'em Up is an entertaining movie to watch with a group. Once. However, the acting and dialogue are awful, and while the action is cool, it's all often poorly shot and lit. I don't mind the film making no sense and being plot-free, but I'd have liked it to have felt a little bit more polished.

I was really surprised at your original review - - I'm glad you had the chance to see the whole thing in better circumstances...
