Really wasn't that bad. Miles better than Pluto Nash and Norbit, at least.

Umm...

I kind of enjoyed it. Sure, it had weird moments, and the ending was bizarre...but like, there were some moments that were just down-right hilarious. Basically, it worked when Eddie Murphy was doing what he does best -- being funny. The rest of the time it was very hit or miss. In the end...I liked it, it was cute, for what it was.

Shockingly watchable. Once it lets you know very early on that it's going to be a kids film (which if they had marketed it that way, it'd be in much better shape than it is right now) with sappy life lessons about how you don't have to be staturesque in order to be a hero, it's fun to watch. And I'm actually somewhat surprised by how much I laughed at Eddie Murphy here. Coming off of Norbit I was expecting the worse, but it actually seems like he's trying here. Just the way he moves and the facial expressions he gives off are hilarious. He could've easily have phoned it in and although I think he's easily capable of trying harder, he's good here. I also liked Ed Helms and Elizabeth Banks here, although Banks isn't too much more than eye candy here. If you see the film, watch the final scene and look where the camera is focused and you'll see what I mean.

Minus a couple of problems here and there, an odd gay character who just makes the filmmakers seem homophobic, and an ending that makes absolutely no sense, it's kind of good. Actually more on the ending. I'm gonna spoil it since I don't think many people care if I do or not. The goal of Dave's crew is to find water for their home planet. I think I got that. But at the end of the film they end up with no water for their home planet and yet they leave Earth happy because it changed them for the better? They don't have any water though. Unless they're setting up for a sequel (HA!), which they kind of did, they're all going to die. What kind of an ending is that?

They weren't looking for water. They were going to harvest the salt from our oceans to power their planet. They mentioned that if they didn't do that they would be without power within a generation.

Still, it was weird how it ended, I agree.

That's right. I knew it had something to do with the water from the ocean's.

I actually feel ashamed now that I wasn't able to fully understand Meet Dave's plot.
