Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle Quote: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (alternatively known as Harold & Kumar Get the Munchies) is a 2004 American stoner film, the first film in the Harold & Kumar series. The film was written by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and directed by Danny Leiner.
The story follows Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) as they decide to go to the fast food chain White Castle after smoking cannabis, but end up on a series of comical misadventures when they cannot find the restaurant.
The film also features Fred Willard, Paula Garcés, Anthony Anderson, Dan Bochart, Ethan Embry, Jamie Kennedy, Bobby Lee, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Reynolds, Shaun Majumder, David Krumholtz, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Malin Åkerman, and Neil Patrick Harris, who plays a fictionalized version of himself. Harold & Kumar is the definition of a great stoner comedy. Extremely funny one liners, hilarious story, and great characters. I enjoyed the movie a lot, even the second time around. B+

I'm not a big fan of "stoner comedies". Maybe I need to actually get stoned at one point in my life to understand the stoner comedy a bit better, but I still liked this movie. It was just a fun ride. Nothing spectacular, often-times unfunny (fart/diarrhea jokes have run their course in movies). But still fun!

This is probably not fair since I only saw the dubbed german version where they used some cliché indian accent, which was from what I saw in the trailers, not intended. Other than that there is a sweet basic idea underneath the movie, but most of the gags fall short and especially the shit duel is just disgusting and lame. (E)

An actually very decent young adult comedy. Unlike many of the other teen comedies that came out in 2004, this one is actually pretty funny and entertaining.

Maybe I don't get stoner comedies, but this movie wasn't nearly as funny as most made it out to be. It's not a classic of the comedic genre and there is nothing that stands out about this flick. Certainly, the title characters are fun to watch and a couple of gags work, but overall, it is just a mildly amusing experience.

Didn't you tell me recently that you hated this movie and gave it at max 5 out of 10? B- sounds a little bit high then...

One of the best comedies in awhile but that's not saying much.

One of my favorite films to watch with my friends. Kumar is amazing and everything he says just seems funny to me. His personality and such is just so funny. Also that fact when I watch this movie with my friends, they all say me and Kumar look alike and act alike.
Kumar: "I thought if I did some gay shit you might wake up"

A good pizza-night rental, no more. Far from 40 Year Old Virgin.

Are some of you guys completely whacked-out, or what? Harold & Kumar is an utter delight, and one of the best comedies Hollywood has pumped out in the last decade. It's warm, it's hilarious, and it's perceptive. Some of the goofier gags aside, it actually feels like it takes place in the real world! I know the people in this movie. Furthermore, in its own offhanded, silly way, it seems like one of the most genuine portrayals of just what it's like to be a young minority in certain parts of America. Stuff like 40YOV is funny, yes, but also utter bullshit.
Also, did I mention how goddamned funny it is?

I watch movies for the bullshit. Spiderman is bullshit too.
Nothing is more genuine than daily reality.

Look, I'm not talking about The Bicycle Thief here. I'm not suggesting that H&K is a Dogme95 film, nor am I suggesting that bullshit is necessarily bad. And while this movie is basically entertaining Hollywood fluff, it's authentic fluff, with a rather unique point of view. That's worth something. Especially considering what's been coming out lately. In the sea of bullshit (not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that), it's refreshing. It keeps me coming back to watch it again. This movie is criminally overlooked.

Heh, seriously, to me this movie seemed about as far away from reality as the American Pie films.

This was a very funny movie. I can't believe it took me almost two years to watch this.
