 A Little Princess (1995)
A Little Princess Quote: A Little Princess is a 1995 American children's film directed by Alfonso Cuarón, starring Liesel Matthews, Eleanor Bron, Liam Cunningham, and Vanessa Lee Chester. Set during World War I, it focuses on a young girl who is relegated to a life of servitude in a New York City boarding school by the headmistress after receiving news that her father was killed in combat. Loosely based upon the novel A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this adaptation was heavily influenced by the 1939 cinematic version and took great creative liberties with the original story. Various differences occur between the original source material and the setting and screenplay of this film.
Due to poor promotion by its distributor, the film hardly made back half its budget. However, the film was critically acclaimed and given various recognition for its significant achievements in art direction and cinematography, among other aspects of its production.

Now I just need to see Y tu mamá también and Great Expectations and I can declare Cuaron a true master of cinema. This movie is so well accomplished visually and emotionally (The scene where she sees her dad who doesn't even recognize her, and then he FINALLY remembers as she's being taken off. . .good god) it's no surprise J.K. Rowling was happy when he signed up to do Azkaban.
Between this, Babe and Toy Story 1995 was an AMAZING year for family flicks.

I think there's already a thread for this movie, I remember commenting on it.
Anyway, this movie is nearly perfect. It is one of the most criminally unnoticed gems of the 1990s.

I checked, no such luck. Maybe you commented on it in a thread for another movie?
And it IS a shame that it doesn't get a lot of talk from people, especially with the rising Cult of Cuaron. Loyal?

 Re: A Little Princess
Yeah, it'd be good if member of the aforementioned rising cult of Cuaron would indeed check this out. Fantastic, magical little film.
