Goodness. What a thread killer someone is.

I knew nothing about the plot or the movie in general before I saw it, I knew it had some fantasy elements but I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I think the actress who played Ofelia did a serviceable job. I think some people didn't like because they are so use to people like Dakota Fanning where all child actors should act 40 years old in a movie. She's a Spanish kid. I'm in love with the actress who played Mercedes. She was really great. I agree with Levy's comments. They weren't coincidences.
This is my number 1 film of 2006.

A+
Loved everything about it. Especially the Second Task. Fucking creepy as hell.

I just watched this again and it holds up so well. I think it has even risen on my top 10 list of last year. I loved every single moment of the film and everything about it. Oh, and the score. Why did I not mention the score before?! It's amazing. I think had this been a little more high-profile, we could have seen either a director nod or a picture nod. Still a solid A.

Re: Pan's Labyrinth
Under her step-father's totalitarian regime, Ofelia (the young girl) retreats to her imaginary fantasy world.
Pan's Labyrinth does not shy away from showing the gruesome torture acts exemplifying the brutish-ness of the despot. It is a film that succeeds in indulging the audience (or at least me) in sympathizing with those who revolt against the brutal dictator. However, I think it's over-simplistic and there's not much depth in the character development. Overall, it's an empathetic (but not thought-provoking) film that roots for the powerless living under dictatorship.

After thinking about the film some more, my grade is a certain straight A.
It's Top 5 of 2006 material.

The best film I've ever seen. Perfect in every way, the ending made me cry.

Pan's Labyrinth is a misnomer; The title says nothing of Pan. I'd rather be stuck in a coma, Or having it off with a man.
The special effects were all cruddy, The cinema hardly was "packed". The scenes are relentlessly muddy, The girl doesn't know how to act.
How come this film is so gloomy? How come there wasn't a maze? I just didn't like it. So sue me! This is a movie for gays.
C. Aw, if only you'd incorporated gay porn somewhere into the third stanza, too... I beg to differ... perhaps you should try reading that stanza again... BTW Dr. Jam, I loved this poetic review when I read it way back when, but never commented on your talented foray into verse. Bravo!!!

10/10 -> A
A great and stunning movie. I'm amongst those who think it was real. Ofelia died once she came to the mortal world, and she had to die to come back to her world, to come full circle. Plus all that other stuff about the chalk, mandrake root, the blossom...
I hope Del Toro really gets that Harry Potetr 7 he wants...
