 The Spy Who Loved Me  Quote: The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) is a spy film, the tenth film in the James Bond series, and the third to star Roger Moore as the fictional secret agent James Bond. It was directed by Lewis Gilbert and the screenplay was written by Christopher Wood and Richard Maibaum. The film takes its title from the tenth novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series, though it does not contain any elements of the novel's plot. The storyline involves a reclusive megalomaniac named Stromberg who plans to destroy the world and create a new civilisation under the sea. Bond teams up with a Russian agent Anya Amasova to stop Stromberg. The film also stars Curd Jürgens and Barbara Bach.
The Spy Who Loved Me was highly acclaimed by critics. The soundtrack, composed by Marvin Hamlisch, also met tremendous success. My favorite James Bond movie. The action scenes and set pieces are fabulous. The song " Nobody does it Better" is fantastic and is second only to the Live and Let Die title song. The bland main villain is overshadowed by Jaws.

This was good, but I wasn't as enamoured as many are. Great Bond girl. (the future Mrs. Ringo Starr) The introduction to Jaws, who was the best henchman since Oddjob in Goldfinger.

I think Connery made the best bond, but it's The Spy Who Loved Me that is my favourite of the franchise. A great villain and henchman, great locations and gadgets (submersible Lotus anyone?), fantastic set-pieces, a spectacular opening stunt and the best song of all the Bond movies is the reason why.

Moore's second best. I love watching this, but it isn't quite as classy as Octopussy. Still a pretty great movie.

Although I like Live and Let Die more, I believe this is Moore's best film. He's just at ease with Bond now, and has finally branched away from Connery's Bond - he's not as agressive with women as he was in The Man with the Golden Gun.
I also enjoyed the plot. Nice setup with Bond killer xXx's lover and then growing to like her. That was well done although the payoff is kind of lame.
One thing I have forgot to mention in these mini reviews is the set design by Ken Adams. All of his work on the Bond films he did were amazing, but this is one of his best.
I'd also say this has the second best title song besides Live and Let Die.
Besides a "too disco" score by Marvin Hamlisch (It's dated, but it works in the film), this is one of the better one's. The bizzare thing though is that this is Moore's third best. It's a bizzare thing with Moore. He had some of the best and some of the worst films in the series. I guess that's what happens when you make seven of these, but I'd still place him as my favorite Bond.

Anything with Roger Moore in it as BOND get's an "A" including Spy Who Loved Me and I'll tell ya something else: I realize that there trying to sort of breathe life back into this franchise with Craig and CASINO ROYALE, but what's gonna hurt this movie more than ever is the absence of Gadgets and the names the women had in these movie's like ##### GALORE.. This is what the general audience who grew up on BOND enjoy: The Gadgets and Women and I really feel CASINO ROYALE will be hurt by this at the box office.. Sure it's getting good reviews, but it's the general audience that will matter the most.. It might be a critic's favorite but not with the fan's who grew up with this and are used to it in a certain way..

The film doesnt say Royale doesnt have gadgets or the pet names, it says that its a more grounded approach, fast cars, theres still probably a few gadgets here and there. Re: The Spy Who Loved Me This is Moore's Goldfinger (with a little bit of You Only Live Twice like action and since both were directed by Lewis Gilbert that makes sense) and easily the best Bond film from the 1970's (unless I'm forgetting that Moonraker is an underrated gem). If there is a problem I had it's that I wish Stromberg were a more memorable villain. The only thing that's memorable about Stromberg is his fantastic underwater lair. The film deserved a supreme baddy. Instead we get a fantastic henchman out of Jaws who might even be more badass than Oddjob.
Other than the main villain being kind of unmemorable, this is everything you could ask for out of a Bond movie. It's got an iconic opening, the action is great, the girls are sexy as hell, and Moore as 007 hits his stride here. He's actually kind of cold-blooded at the end with how he just straight shoots up Stromberg multiple times. Speaking of blood, this is the first film in the series that I think if re-rated today could easily be PG-13. The finale has the most use of squibs I can remember in any Bond film, at least to that point.
The Spy Who Loved Me marked the 10th outing for agent 007 in the official EON series and it's one of his best.
