Quote:
Halloween Ends is a 2022 American slasher film directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier. It is a sequel to the 2021 film Halloween Kills, the thirteenth installment in the Halloween franchise, and the final film in the "H40" trilogy that commenced with the 2018 film, which continues the 1978 film's storyline (disregarding the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth films, the H20 duology, and the remake duology by Rob Zombie). The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, James Jude Courtney, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Kyle Richards, who are all reprising their roles from previous installments. It will be Curtis' final performance as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle's final outing as Michael Myers in a cameo role, respectively.

Halloween Ends premiered at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on October 11, 2022, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 14, 2022 by Universal Pictures. It also streamed simultaneously on paid tiers of Peacock for 60 days.

What the fuck were they thinking here? This was boring, pointless, and just terrible.

This was absolutely terrible. As a whole this reboot series was incredibly lame. I still think of H20 as the perfect ending for the Laurie/Michael saga and don't view these films as canon. D+

Post Re: Halloween Ends
I dug the idea of a romance between the heirs of Lauri Strode and Michael Myers. Corey gradually becoming a monster was also interesting. First it was an accident, then it was self-defense, then it was an indirect murder, and so on and so on until he puts on the mask himself. Allison is kinda dumb to not see it, but she's young, horny and isolated in her feelings (though she certainly wasn't the only one who lost parents over the course of the first two films.)

The problem, as with the first two films, is that they just drop all the interesting ideas regarding the nature of evil and instead focus on Lauri's story which is all that ever mattered. Allison doesn't get the chance to reject the dark path that Corey set her on, as he kills himself to spite Lauri. The town gets its closure only thanks to Lauri. Yadda yadda yadda. Though Lauri never really gets a chance to get over her drama and learn anything either. I kinda wish it was JLC that was killed off at the end of the last one instead of Judy Greer. Instead, she just kills Michael for the ... 5th time? This time for good? Until more moneys is needed?

Overall, this was better than Halloween Kills and the other generic entries in the series. It's what Rob Zombie was trying to do, but failed because he is a shit filmmaker (great at music though!) Well, almost ... Close enough anyways. Making a romantic Halloween movie was a tall task to begin with, and even though it could have been alot better, it also could have been a lot worse.

6/10

This trilogy was a major disappointment overall and I'm glad its over.

The one word to describe this film for me is: empty. A bold and unique approach that has no payoff at all in the end, feels empty. Blood & gore that is the most tame in the trilogy, while having a few standout scenes, still feels empty though. A Laurie and Michael confrontation that is quick, anticlimactic and lacks the epic punch of a "last ever showdown". While it does "end", still leaves that empty feeling. They had so much potential here to get it right, but severely dropped the ball.

2 / 5

Note: The acting here is the best in the trilogy

... I actually liked this LOL and I really disliked Kills. I think some of acting feels off but I think the focus on Corey was both strange and interesting. Like if this was the usual Michael killing randos every 10 minutes I would've been uninterested but I found myself interested in this and the finale felt more impactful. Definitely not great but certainly a surprise to me.

Maybe it was low expectations, but I actually liked it. Despite waiting a whole 40 minutes before we even get a glimpse of Michael, and despite being a further 15 minutes before he really enters the movie, and despite the film mostly being about his apprentice of sorts, and despite there being lots of things that shouldn't work ... it all gels well together, and I really liked it.

I admire David Gordon Green and Danny McBride. It takes balls to do something different with a Halloween movie, and they sure did it here. The second film is kind of awful but here it works so much better. You actually feel as if the story is progressing, moving beyond the 'every October 31st the boogeyman kills people', and actually ending.

Some of the kills are gruesome and I appreciated the nods to the original (knitting needle, Corey babysitting in an identical layout to when Laurie did in '78, etc.) without it being heavy handed fan service. And the music is excellent.

I was expecting to hate this but I thought it was interesting and enjoyable even if it dragged a bit. It holds up well against the 2018 film amd the other entries (that I’ve seen). Like publicenemy - the Corey storyline was baffling at first but ultimately works.

I'm a massive Halloween fan and likely enjoyed this more than most.

Honestly, I was loving the first 75 minutes or so. I loved Corey and while his relationship with Allison was a bit annoying, I liked that that were doing something different. My issue really was... everything with Michael Myers. It just seemed like he was shoehorned in and was unnecessary to the story. And the "final battle" was underwhelming.

I really think that this and Kills should have been swapped and if they were, I think the reception to this would have been stronger.

Am I the only one who laughed at the first "kill" in the movie? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I just knew this wasn't going to be good after that.

I get what this trilogy is trying to do in regards to grief, but the execution (minus 2018) has been mostly terrible. And why can't Haddonfield get over four murders that happened forty years ago? Four murders. It's not like Michael has killed dozens of people. I get Laurie's grief, but the town is acting like Michael has been murdering people over the course of 13 movies instead of just one. (To be fair this is as much a criticism for Kills as it is for Ends)

As for Corey... that poor actor. It's not his fault. I hope he hasn't got too much shit over this.

At least the movie nails the ending.

:funny:

I've definitely had the same thoughts re: why can't Haddonfield move on...? Had that discussion with friends after a few had watched this, only comparison that made any sense was Myers becoming a Manson like figure following the Hollywood Hills murders. But even that is tough to see. Even worse than Haddonfield is what they did to Laurie. MANY people have hid similarly horrible nights, they don't usually spend the next 40 years as crazy survivalists prepping for their tormentors return. The life path that H20 had her on was 100x better/

In hindsight, this new trilogy is unfortunately largely very disappointing. So much with potential with JLC returning but they just made too many odd decisions. Too much "Laurie is the crazy grandmother", "Dr. Surtain", "podcasters" "Evil Dies Tonight" etc crap.

Alison isn't a bad character and Judy Greer does well with what she had...but cant help feeling a direct sequel to H20 with her on same path and Josh Hartnett/Michelle Williams return would have flowed much better.
