This is an art film. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But judging from the conversations in the audience following this film, some people will be lost and bored amid all the freeze frames, flash backs, the Ciao Bellas, the mod look, it's almost too cool for school.
The script is fast paced yet seems to collapse under the immense pressure during the final 20 minutes or so. But you can't beat the look and rhythm of the film. It doesn't feel so much like a sequel to Ocean's Eleven but some sort of weird homage to nothing in particular.
The cast is great, including the two newbies Catherine Zeta-Jones Douglas Cox Arquette and the alien hybrid, Vincent Cassel. I do wish poor brilliant Eddie Izzard had a larger role but you get the feeling Steven and co. were strained enough just to fit everyone in. There's a very clever "what" moment to the film that works, kind of.
Still, I love the look and feel of Ocean's Twelve.

I loved every second of "12". I think if I had to pick between the two films, I would say the first is better, but this is pretty damn close. The twist towards the end with Tess was genius. Also, I absolutely enjoyed the Red Sox and Yankees reference on the train.
Great film A+

Ciao Bello! Ho una domanda.
Dovrei vedere Oceans 12 primo di vede 11?*
* Can one watch Ocean's 12 before (s)he sees 11?

You can dolce. Its fine.
If you've seen one caper movie, you've seen them all. O11 is fun. O12 sacraficed fun for amazing style. I was so thinking of you through the whole thing. I might buy the movie for the music and the style! It was fabulous. Well, that movie was ok. But the rest: perfect. I loved the acting, the cast, but.... it had big time flaws as a sequel and as a movie on its on. I think you would appreciate it for the style, atleast....
Overall, I gave it a B- in the grading thread.

An entertaining movie, although the plot ranges from weak to stretching to incomprehensable. Stars turned out to be the stars, and I consider it two hours well-spent for a late Friday night. B+.

Ocean's Twelve is one of the best looking films of 2004.
The flashback scene between Rusty and Isabel was from another time and place. I lOVED the discotheque shot.
Dolce, I wouldn't recommend you see 12 before 11. 12 expects you to know who certain people are and the jokes are funnier if you know the backstory.

I was to busy drunk in a gutter blurrily gazeing at a street lamp to go see it.
But in time I will.

WOW. I'm surprised at how well you guys all thought it was.
I was thoroughly disappointed.
I probably would give the first one a B+ and this one a C+
There was almost no comedy throughout like an hour in the middle.
The plot got too complex for alot of people to follow.
Julia Roberts was barely in the movie and yet the best part of the movie.
It felt too contrived.
They had too many characters to deal with and trying to give each a little of his own, they just fell flat on their faces.
And I hate mystery movies in which it is totally impossible to figure out how they did it until they explain, those are just cheap plot shots.
then they tried to go all drama in the second to last scene with Zeta-Jones.
I don't know, it just didn't work for me.
I would barely recommend it.

Actually, I agree with your take.
For me though, it's completely style over substance and that's why I gave it a B+.
Take the final frame of film, the freeze frame. It in no way serves the narrative, yet it fits in with the rest of the film.

Impressive, yet dissapointing. I loved Ocean's Eleven. I can't use the word "love" for Ocean's Twelve. It's just not appropriate. This is far from a bad movie, but it was a bit of a letdown. I agree that the style is great, the acting by the awesome cast is great, but the story ... eh. The movie wasn't also as fun as the first, but I can't say it wasn't a fun movie, because I had a good time watching it. I would recommend it, but don't expect what you saw in Ocean's Eleven.

Not as good as O11. I was a bit disapointed. There were too many moments where it tried to be cool and funny. But it didn't worked for me. My favorite actor here was Matt Damon. He was funny. The Julia Roberts twist at the end was great. Overall an entertaining movie. B

After being thoroughly disappointed with O11, I'd pretty much commited to skipping O12 - but against my better judgement I went to see it this week, and guess what? I loved it! It has a great sense of style, fun, and humor. I especially enjoyed Julia Roberts "role", and the general monkeyin' around with the heist film genre. Surprisingly, I highly recommend it...

I thought it was hilarious
Especially when Brad's wake up call is really early, and the following scene with Clooney... GOLD

Ocean's Twelve - A
On-par with or just beats the first one. AMAZING FILM!!!! Brad Pitt and George Clooney were made to do 'cool guy' roles. Heist films are the best arent they???!!!!! The music was good also, WILL be buying!

Shockingly lazy and sloppy movie given the talent involved. Passably watchable and entertaining, and the cameo with Topher Grace playing himself was funny. But it is obvious that Soderbergh and Clooney don't realize what made the first one work.
1) The Las Vegas Setting. Which is ditched here in favor of generic seeming European holiday backdrops. The sense one gets is of the cast wanting to take a European vacation and making a movie along the way.
2) The Glamour, costumes and style. The first one oozed style, with calm, careful camera work and lighting. This movie has a grainy gritty feel, and most of the main actors look miserable and unkempt. Nice if you are going for realism but since when has this series been about realism. The camera jumps around a la Bourne Supremacy, some might like that, I didn't at all.
3) The first one had a tight, smart script that seemed carefully planned like clockwork. This script is honestly just boring, it wanders here and there. Part of the problem with the script is it is not centered on one person, the way the first one was primarily centered on Danny Ocean. So there's no strong sense of point of view, just endless flitting about between multiple perspectives till the audience starts looking at their watches. And it's full of little things that make no sense. Like when Pitt (looking more haggard and ugly in this movie than I've ever seen him) realizes the woman he's having an affair with is onto him, he leaps out the window, leaving behind the damning evidence instead of taking it with him.
It's not all bad, i'ts an ok rental. But given the immense tools the director had to work with in terms of talent involved, this is about the least effort he could have made.
By the end when Bruce Willis appears in an extended cameo, it just seems like they were at a loss for how to handle it.
C-
Soderbergh and Clooney need to rethink the direction they are taking their careers. Their collaborations don't seem to be helping each other the way they expected.

I loved this movie. It's easily better than the first and one of the best of the year. So entertaining!
