This would've been a very good film if it weren't for the boring first hour, although I did enjoy a coule of scenes, like Ford and Bettany touring the bank, and the transfering of the money. Once Robert Forster's character gets shot though, the movie picks up and turns into a nice thriller (Thriller might be too strong a word though).
It was good to see Ford once again on screen, and it was even better to see that he could still handle the action sequences. That should be a sigh of relief for anyone wanting to see a fourth Indiana Jones film. If they start filming within this year or next year, they should get away without making the action sequences look stupid.

Now for my mini review. The film is a solid A. This is definately the best film Ford has done since Air Force One, which I know isn't that hard except for What Lies Beneath and K19.
The cinematography and score are top notch. The acting is up to par, and the story has enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, even if you should know the big ones. The first hour was interesting and very well shot. I was quite suprised. You learn most of the characters and the basic storlyine. The first hour is for the most part generic, but the actors are clearly way above the script and they make it work two folds. The actual capturing of the family is something very shot, and is very shocking way it was done.
And lets talk about the cast. Paul Bettany is very chilling. He's the type of character that could be your best friend, when he secretly killed his family and their hanging in his house. The henchmen, are well henchmen. None of them really break any ground, and neither does Madsen. She is fun to watch though (I think she is very naturally beatiful and talented). The kids on the other hand were really miscasted, they were really badly acting, and many times they never felt like they were in danger (the boy especially.) And you'll be suprised by Robert Patric and Forster and the chick from 24 with the long name. Especially Patrick, he is one of the few that makes this thriller thrilling in the first part of the film. Ford and him play well off of each other.
And now onto my dear boy. Ford was superb. His presence was definately missed the last three years, and he performs the goods, and quite realistically this time around. You will be quite suprised. I will say anyone saying Ford is trying to hide his age, you'll be pleasantly suprised. this is not Ford of the 80s, or the 90s. This is the new Harrison Ford. I'll go on and say that Ford and Bettany have the best fight I've seen since Uma vs. Daryl in Kill Bill Vol 2. It is quite brilliant and gritty and really shows Ford in his most vulnerable state. This isn't Ford on top of the game, he is constantly getting it handed to him that you really think he won't make it this time. And the supporting cast was really good. When the film really picks up, it is a must see.
This film doesnt add anything new, except some great cinematography, acting, and action. And I will say this film could have probably gotten better reviews if it was just given the R rating. It was so close anyway, it could have used some goodole adult language and the death scenes are quite brutal considering the rating. If your a fan of Harrison Ford, you'll be pleasantly suprised, even with the bad reviews. And I'm saying this as the biggest Harrison Ford fan out there, and I havent seen a film of his in theaters since Six Days Seven Nights (Which is actually quite a shocker). I'm seeing it again tomorrow with more people. If your a critic, you'll probably think it is too weak, but if your anybody else, there is something to salvage from this, even if it is just to see one of Ford's best performance in 10 years.
Harrison Ford finally made a strong followup to What Lies Beneath. But its a shame there were two weird films in the middle. There are still hopes for good legs. Bring on Indiana Jones 4.

The first 2/3 was way too slow and betrayed the definition of a thriller. I certainly wasn't thrilled, instead I was saying let's get moving here. The last 30 minutes saved the movie from a complete disaster, but overall a lot of talents were wasted in the film.

I heard two different reviews of this. My 17 year old nephew loved it and my mom...MY MOM!!!....loved it. She said that it was the first time she had ever seen the audience erupt into applause at the end of a movie.

Thats what happened the 2nd time I saw it too. There is this one scene, when Ford probably does just the most bad ass thing hes ever done, its right before the final fight. Youll know what I'm talking about when you see it.

Yeah, when I went, there was scattered applause at a couple points of the movie, and then as the movie ended. It was a 4:30pm showing and it was nearly sold out (don't know if it was fully sold or not).
I'm getting the strong feeling of wanting to go see it again...

The movie is a fast paced thriller. The movie would have done very well if the marketplace was not so crowded.

Decent film with a few too many plot holes to be truly effective. That being said, it is a fairly enjoyable and mostly plausible action/thriller. The cast is all fairly good in their roles, though Madsen was dissapointing after her Academy-Award nominated role in Sideways. Overall, a solid film, but it could have been better with a little more attention to detail. B

It was a solid thriller, even if predictable and a bit slow.
Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany are excellent.

Though far from memorable, I thought this was a decent thriller that kept me entertained throughout. Harrison Ford has still got the look.

Nice movie to watch in a theater with a good group. I thought it was good and fast-paced and showed some more realistic aspects of a kidnapping/heist. The characters were all very "Where Have I Seen You Before". I laughed out loud when the Rat Race Guy blew up with the car. The Walk the Line dad just kinda disappeared and the Token British Character didn't die an painful enough death. I still can't place where I've seen that secretary before.
