Nacho Libre is a 2006 comedy film directed by Jared Hess. It is a production of Nickelodeon Movies. The script was written by Jared Hess, Jerusha Hess and Mike White. It was loosely based on the story of Fray Tormenta ("Friar Storm"), aka Rev. Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez, a real-life Mexican Catholic priest who had a 23-year career as a masked luchador. He competed in order to support the orphanage he directed. The producers are Jack Black, David Klawans, Julia Pistor, and Mike White. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

If you're a fan of The Royale Tenenbaums and its style of humour, you'll love Nacho Libre. Jack Black and his supporting cast were top notch.

I loved this movie.

Not sure if I can handle Jack Black's VPL for two hours, though. Is this presented in Smell-O-Vision, by the way?

Honestly this was great, Jack Black is fantastic and hopefully this can push his carrer like Vince Vaughn in Wedding Crasher. The supporting cast is awesome as well. A great film all round. A bit weird at times but still a solid A. THE FUNNIEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR so far.

After sleeping on it, I changed my grade from an A to an A+ for the corn on the cob scene.

The stand off.

I doubled over in fits of laughter. Took about 3 minutes for me to stop laughing.

the crowd went wild on that one. the film is full of so many parts, i dont know which one was my favorite.

"I am a man of science!!"
"Have you ever had feelings for a nun"
"How did you find me in the wilderness?" "I saw you from the village"

And the final scene with the flying eagle move had the crowd cheering away!!

I didn't quite see the whole thing at work, but from what I did notice it was pretty hilarious. I can't wait to see the middle hour. Very, very funny.

I always thought the whole Mexican thing was overplayed in Napoleon Dynamite, but here it verges on being plain racist. I'm not one for censorship, but the fact that this thing's rated PG (thus, one of the only "cool" movies that kids will see with their parents approval, not by sneaking in) frightens me a bit. Obviously the filmmakers are liberal, but right now this is real, real bad timing.

Outside of that little rant (yeah, go ahead - tell me I sound like a 50-year-old pale southern conservative christian), the movie has some funny parts. Jack Black is Jack Black. If you liked Jack Black doing Jack Black antics in School of Rock, you'll probably like this, too. It doesn't have the heart that School of Rock did.

I felt almost the exact same way about this as I did with Napoleon Dynamite. It's often very funny, but really, really weird (like, too weird. I mean, I like quirky as much as the next person, but certain things in this film were so bizarre that they fell flat. It was enjoyable for the most part but it seemed like the kind of movie I would like more if I had rented. C+

Funniest moments of the film: Obese freak lady and her "secret tunnel", Nacho fighting the bizarre monkey-cougar things (WTF), guy getting impaled in the eye by a corn on the cob.

I dont know where to begin. The trailers looked very funny. Maybe it was the way it was edited but I was extremely disappointed with the movie. All the punchlines seem very off key and didnt quite make sense to me, the concept looked very funny and with Jack Black in it, it shouldnt have went wrong but I didnt really laugh as much as I thought I would. I think the problem is its focus on the same old jokes mainly about wrestling is a sin or the part where the skinny guy hates the orphans. Maybe its just the movie theater experience because I found Dodgeball and Anchorman much more funnier the second time around when viewed on dvd.

NACHO LIBRE was great! Colorful, creative, and heartwarming entertainment with tons of laughs and an inspired, Wes Anderson-esque visual style. Though Will Ferrell remains number one, this definitely made Jack Black my second favorite Frat Packer. He was extremely entertaining in this film. Overall, I would give it a very solid B+. It ain't going to shatter the world, but it's most definitely a blast.

It was alright, I suppose, but I felt the same way I did with Napoleon Dynamite - not a bad film, but it's just not that funny and really odd.

I like the "xoxoxoXoXoxO" part and Jack Black's song, though.

C-ish.

I get a feeling I won't find this funny at all. Seriously, the only funny thing I have seen about the film so far was the image Jack Black in a wrestling outfit...all the jokes in the trailer seemed horrendously unfunny to me.

Nacho Libre - D-

Often painfully unfunny, Nacho Libre is a dud. Director Jared Hess still hasn't a clue how to stage scenes for comedy, instead relying on character quirks and the propensity for people to seemingly want to laugh at characters instead of with them. Like Napoleon Dynamite, the film is stocked with losers of all shapes and sizes and asks us to laugh at their ineptitude and, in a really hateful twist, the fact that they're Mexican and/or painfully malnourished. The film revels in the degrading of the Mexican people, constantly pushing the audience to laugh at their misfortune. Ha, they have to steal food, ha. Sorry but I forgot that going hungry was supposed to be funny. The film pokes mean-spiritedly at the overweight (The fact that Jack Black is fat seems to be what it hopes people find funny) and the underweight. Also, the film makes a mockery out of religion, painting it as intolerable towards any and all acts of goodwill.

Hey wait one sec, is this Joe or someone hijacked his account?
Is this like the same Joe that hates every movie thats aimed at blacks, the same Joe that made fun of Queen Latifahs weight making a social commentary on how Nacho Libre is being very bigoted against the overweight, the malnourished and hispanics  ?
