Quote:
King Kong is a Pre-Code 1933 fantasy monster adventure film co-directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, and written by Ruth Rose and James Ashmore Creelman after a story by Cooper and Edgar Wallace. The film tells of a gigantic island-dwelling gorilla-like creature called Kong who dies in an attempt to possess a beautiful young woman. The film stars Fay Wray, Bruce Cabot and Robert Armstrong and opened in New York City on March 2, 1933 to good reviews. Kong is distinguished for its stop-motion animation by Willis O'Brien and its musical score by Max Steiner. The film has been released to video, DVD, and Blu-ray, and has been computer colorized. In 1991, the film was deemed "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Quite simply, a classic. What a magnificent film, it is truly an in depth character study on Kong...the film doesn't villainize him, rather it makes him sympathetic to the audience. The acting is great, and for someone who is a B&W horror junkie (like myself) it doesn't get much better than this one

It's King Kong. Little elaboration seems needed. Can't wait for that DVD!

I found it to be kind of overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good film, but it relies mostly on the special effects, which for 1933 were great (Better than Kong '76). The acting though.................

i really dont know how to appreciate a very old movie, ive seen few and i believe this is the oldest movie ive watched. i really dont know how to review this one...

anyways, the performances were horrible but the acting style was very different back then so i dont know. Fay Wray's frighten faces were hilarious  hehe

From the beginning of the movie till you finally see Kong was boring as hell. the rest was.....OK. Everything that happend in the island was way to easy. Interesting that Ann Darrow never actually became fond of King Kong....hmmmm
The special effects were outstanding for its time, i guess

it would of been awesome if Peter Jackson added some more scenes from this version, like the train scene, grabbing Ann Darrow from the hotel room, instead of fighting with all the bats or whatever they were a simply teradactyl would of been so great

It's terrifying. What more can be said? Definitely better than the Jackson version.
