What a total GIRL-ROM-COM*!!!!!

...and thank [Ms.] God for that!

This one's way heavy on the romance without sacrificing the comedy. The girl-laden audience (and when I say 'girl-laden', perhaps I would be more accurate in saying 'lady-laden' given the average age) erupted in peals of laughter over and over again, yet audibly sighed as one when the sweet lovin' was on display. Wow! It really was an enjoyable movie. Dis one's goin' be hot wit da laaaaadies!!!

Of course, it's a showcase role for Katherine Heigl, who exceeded my expectations in so many ways (some of them very, very wrong... :oops: ). And she was joined by another talented summer of 2007 newcomer, Malin Akerman, playing her lil' sis. They're both great, and both coming off summer movies - - Knocked Up and The Heartbreak Kid - - one popular and one great. But, or I should say butt, don't that James Marsden make the cutest darn boy object evah!!!!!!!!

Very nicely written script, explores the full depths of the bridal scene, while carrying the characters on a tormented swan ride through the darkest tunnel of love.

Watch for this movie to light up the screens in proto-'08!

15 out of 5.

{* Herewith, I posit a theory that there is a continuum of ROM-COM's from the excellent example of the total GIRL-ROM-COM we have on display here, to the BOY-ROM-COM we've seen most recently (and nearly at it's lowest common denominator) in Superbad, to finally the COUPLE-ROM-COM as seen in the classic romantic fantasies such as Love, Actually.}

{{Note: My first entry on my 2008 top ten list.}}

I'm just teasing loyal, he can be such a doyhead sometimes.

Nope, I really saw the sneak tonight with a 90% full audience who was really digging it. Despite our history of disagreement over low comedies and historical dramas, Libs, I wouldn't hesitate to say that over the years we have a surprisingly high level of agreement on the good old ROM-COM. I predict you will really enjoy this one...

Considering 27 Dresses either started at 7 or 730 PST, he clearly either wrote a fake review or owns a time machine (I'm hoping for the latter).

A jet-setter like you should be able to imagine another possibility (or three) if you concentrate real hard like...

I'll never trust Bradford's reviews on the safest Thai whorehouses ever again! Its just to risky for my little men.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, I didn't understand the confusion initially.

I *am* glad that you saw the movie for real and dug it. Because we actually agree (!) on chick flicks much of the time. And I want to see thisssssssssssssssss...because there hasn't been a good romcom in a while.

All the shows of 27 Dresses started at 7:00 here, so I believe him.

EDIT: Nevermind, just one of them did. I guess his could have.

Whatever.

A surprisingly adorable and hilarious romantic comedy that ends up being an absolute delight. Sure, it's utterly predictable from beginning to end, but the screenplay is sharp and features a lot of great dialogue exchanges as well. The supporting cast does a good job, especially the hilarious Judy Greer, and James Marsden is incredibly charming as the love interest. But Katherine Heigl is the reason this film is such a success. In her first starring role after becoming a "name" (after "Grey's Anatomy" and Knocked Up), she is effortlessly delightful in the leading role and shows how capable of an actress she is. It is hard not to fall in love with her character and Heigl gives the role an original, fresh spin. She is also hysterical and shows off her great comedic skills in many laugh-out-loud moments. This film is a wonderful charmer and a breath of fresh air for the rom-com genre after the disappointing P.S., I Love You. Highly recommended. B+/A-.

BTW, this will have great W.O.M. The sold-out audience I saw it with loved it. There was applause at the end and a lot of talk on the way out.

Yay. The trailer is sort of blah, so I was really hoping the movie wasn't terrible or anything. All I can really ask for in a movie like this is that it works on some level.

27 Dresses is a surprisingly wonderful romantic comedy, and a great movie to start of the year of 2008 to. While it is your usual romantic comedy plot, the film from start to finish is absolutely hysterical and I felt like I was going to die laughing at least six times, something that doesn't usually happen. Besides that, at the end of the film my cheeks actually hurt a bit from smiling throughout the entire film. It's not often a movie will make you smile the entire way through. Katherine Heigl and James Marsden (whom I now have a giant crush on) are both wonderful here and have great chemistry. All of the supporting players do a fine job as well. Overall, this was a wonderful little gem and the best movie of 2008! :P Everyone should support it when it comes out on January 11th, it was really wonderful and I don't know how someone couldn't enjoy it. Also, I thought this was funnier than The Devil Wears Prada.

8/10 (A-)

Well two of the funniest scenes for me were when Katherine Heigl walked into a 50th anniversary party and a scene where Katherine Heigl and James Marsden get their car gets stuck.

C-

Verrrrrrrry disappointing considering the talent involved. The direction is to blame big time here because there isn't any.

Kudos to Heigl and Marsden, especially the latter. I really dislike Edward Burns, as a human being and as an actor.

This is pure predictable fluff i know and there are some very cringe worthy moments. The scene when she discovers the newspaper article is quite good and the drama that flows from the scene is very watchable. Heigl's character is very depressing.

Oh, come on. Like you expected me to not like it.

I thought it was hugely entertaining and very cute. It's not great art, but most romantic comedies aren't. Katherine Heigl is immensely appealing, and I think James Marsden is my new celebrity crush after three delightful roles/movies in a row. Lots of fun! B+
