The Ring Two

Quote:
The Ring Two is a 2005 American psychological horror film, and a sequel to the 2002 film The Ring, which was a remake of the 1998 Japanese film of the same name. Hideo Nakata, director of the original Japanese films Ring and Ring 2 on which the American versions are based, is the director of this film in place of Gore Verbinski (who directed the first film).

This sequel is not based on any of the previous Japanese sequels to Ring, and is an original storyline, continuing from The Ring.

The movie was filmed in Astoria, Oregon and Los Angeles, California. It was released on March 18, 2005, and opened with a strong US$35 million its first weekend, more than doubling the opening weekend of The Ring. Its final $75 million gross was far less than the original's $129 million total.

Thumbs up. A lot of people are going to come out disappointed -- it's not a horror film.

Do you consider The Ring a horror film then?

Yes, because in the end it was designed for the purpose of scaring the audience. Ring Two is more a personal drama between mother and son that has jump moments.

Are the jump moments at least as good as in the first flick?

I'd say so. There was screaming in the theater, if that's what you mean, though ther's no 'coming out of the television' moment.

Remember, this is a drama with horror elements -- not the other way around like the first film. Don't walk in expecting to be scared out of your wits.

That's too bad. The first Ring is truly one of the scariest movies I have ever seen.

Tell me, Dark Shape, as a fellow horror fan, what did you think of Saw?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. The acting is... off... to say the least, and the ending is illogical as hell, but for the 100 or so minutes it lasted, I had a blast trying to figure it out.

You should check out the NC-17 version if you ever get a chance. It was the only movie that made me feel physically sick. (the uncut version, that is).

A sense a double-feature of NC-17 Saw and Haute Tension coming on.

I'm seeing it tonight. The toxic WOM has me pretty worried, but i'm still hoping for the best. It can't be worse than Boogeyman..... can it?

I just saw it. Not nearly as good as the first movie. I give The Ring an 8.5 out of 10. I'm giving Two a 7/10. It was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first. Like said, it really is a drama between a mother and son with horror elements thrown in to keep street cred. Still, for what it was, I liked it. But that's part of the problem. I only like The Ring Two, while I love The Ring. I think maybe they could have tried a little harder, but it's not a bad movie. It's good. Kicks the living crap out of White Noise and all the other horror movies released so far this year.

And I LOVED Rachel's line at the end. That was perfect. :D

  And to think i have to wait another 2 weeks to see it!! ](*,)

I quite like the idea of it being more drama than horror though, if it's done well the tension build up could be great.
