Quote:
The Missing is a 2003 Western thriller film directed by Ron Howard, based on Thomas Eidson's 1996 novel The Last Ride. This Western thriller set in 1885 New Mexico territory is notable for the authentic use of the Apache language by various actors, some of whom spent long hours studying it. The film was produced by Revolution Studios and Imagine Entertainment and distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Didn't like it at all.

I'd give it a solid B+. One of Ron Howard's better films.

C- and it escapes a worse grade just from the entertainment of seeing Blanchett and Jones act even though they are both miscast and the script is pretty confused about what it wants to be. There's no real point to this movie, it isn't scary or funny or moving. I was bored.

I'd give it around a 7/10 ( B ). I liked it a lot at first but it doesn't hold up well on repeat viewings.

About as interesting as looking at sawdust. What was Ron Howard thinking? Cate Blanchett was good, though. D+

It could have been much better, but it also could have been worse. Does this movie has a message? Does it have a point? If so it escaped me. If a movie, however, doesn't have a message to convey it should be at least very entertaining or visually enthralling. It was neither. Tommy Lee Jones is a great actor and he proves it here once again, but also Cate Blanchett can show off her great skills here. The movie flows well most of the time, but I couldn't help, but ask myself why it actually was made. It is not a great western, not a great drama, not a great action flick. It has elements of all these genres, but fails to be good in any of them. What remains is a very average and pointless piece of cinema with excellent performances and a lame villain.

C-

Very bland, warmed-over John Ford. Continues my hate/hate relationship with the films of Ron Howard (though I sure do love his Arrested Development narration).

I really expected to like this one. Alas.....

This movie really needed to decided what it wanted to be. Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett do their best, but they can't make it a better movie. Very disappointing, but it had a few good moments. My grade - C+.

That exactly was the main problem with this movie. What genre is it?!

Don't forget family drama. That was its problem...too many genres and none really works.

I agree with most of you! The film was just so empty! It had no meaning whatsoever and was boring. I feel sorry for Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones who wasted their very good performances in this mess! D
