The Marine is a 2006 American action film starring wrestler John Cena. The film was directed by John Bonito, written by Michelle Gallagher and Alan B. McElroy and produced by Joel Simon.

Produced by the films division of WWE, called WWE Films, and distributed in the United States by 20th Century Fox, the film received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA for "intense sequences of violent action, sensuality and language". However an unrated version was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Quite possibly the greatest movie ever. I mean I knew John Cena was good in the ring, but he gave me chills up on the screen. Carlson gave me an impression of being a young Hepburn. The writing is pretty feaking amazing. The fight scenes are gorgeous and the rest of the movie is slick. And T2 even made a great return to the big screen. Definite recommendation.

-A++++
On the Bradley scale like a 50 out of 5.

Enjoyably cheesy actioner with loads of explosions and great fight scenes. The acting is decent with Patrick the best, oozing the same sort of menace he had as the T1000.

There's a great line related to The Terminator that I won't spoil here but it is funny.

:hahaha:

I though this was pretty good. The action was done quite well with lots of explosions/shooting/fighting/etc. and the film was pretty funny as well. John Cena was great and he definitely has a future in the genre. Kelly Carlson looked good and Robert Patrick was great in villain form again. A-

Eh, how can it be that good considering it is PG-13? I think with an R-rating this probably could have ended up as a serviceable actioner...

But the young girl fanbase that John Cena has wouldn't be able to see the movie. Quality was never a factor when this movie was made.

Seriously, what did you think, BTTF?

X do you think I'd actually waste money on this shit? I can't stand Cena when I see him for free.

You mean it can't be good with that rating? Action films work fine with PG-13 most of the time....Transporter/Transporter 2, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Bond films, M:I, etc.

I'm a Cena fan too so that made me enjoy it a bit more.

:hahaha: Jesus, isn't that the truth?? I hate that spinarooni belt he has along with that waving his hand in front of his face gimmick when his opponent's down.. I've always wondered what the guy laying on the mat is saying to CENA when he's standing over him waving his hand in front of his face with that goofy "You can't see me" shi*???

But those are high profile action films. This one is far cheaper.

I'm surprised to say that "The Marine" is more fun that the majority of the movies I've seen this year. The action is done well, Robert Patrick makes for an awesome villain, and... well, that's it. But that's all the film needs in order to be fun. Patrick steals the entire movie, and doesn't look like he's unhappy to be billed as second fiddle to a WWE Superstar. In actuality, John Cena plays second fiddle to Robert Patrick, and I might go as far as to say Kelly Carlson has more on-screen time than Cena does. Whoever decided to give Cena less time than actual actors Patrick and Carlson made a wise, wise choice. It's not that Cena is bad, but he's definitely the weakest part of the movie.

Of course, there are certain parts of the film where all logic is absent, and it cannot be overlooked. How can John Tryton live through not one, but two major explosions, and not perish in the flames? In both situations, anyone else would have died, but not the film lead. It's understandable that the lead character wouldn't die in the first half hour, so at least make it seem more logical that Tryton can't just fly through an explosion (two explosions) and live. Not to mention an otherwise fun car chase scene that is tainted by the fact that hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of bullets fly at Tryton while driving a cop car, and they somehow ALL miss him. The cop car wasn't so lucky.

My only other gripe is the explosions. There's actually more than I can count. Two, maybe three explosions are enough. But the film teeters on about six major explosions in the 80 minute running time. Has to be a record.

Despite all that, the movie is actually a lot of brainless fun, especially for those who love action. Any non-WWE fans should not worry, because there isn't any ridiculous wrestling moves (lots of fists flying, and maybe one chokeslam, but that's it), and John Cena, as I already said, easily plays second fiddle to Robert Patrick.

Grade: B+

It's crazy just how many explosions this film has. Seems like there's one every five minutes or so.

Seriously. Someone looks a certain way, and something explodes. Trip over your own feet, and something explodes. Stand still and wait a while, and something explodes.

Pretty cheesy, but straight-forward action flick. It's harmless fun. Although that one black guy who kept talking about his experience in "camp" and with "rock candy" was odd. B

Dissapointing. I might have gotten some enjoyment out of this if all the fun bits weren't in the trailer, but this is not so bad it's good, it's just lame.

B+, been waiting a long time for a true, fun action film. I don't like John Cena usually but he wasn't too hatable here.
