Just two small questions that may have been answered but it is kind of hard to look through 31 pages of reviews, so I will just ask and see if anyone knows the answers to these very small, nitpicky question.
1. Just curious for those of you with the script, did Heath Ledger improve a lot of his lines. I know he improvised the clapping when Gordon was appointed commisioner, but just curious if anything else was improvised.
2. When the mob is having their "group therapy session," or someone people may know this as when the Joker does magic. The Joker says to Michael Jai White's character, Cane, I believe that "the suit isn't fake, you should know you bought it." Does anyone have any theories as to what that mean? Did the Joker just kill one of his men and take his suit or did the Joker used to work for him? Any other ideas? I answered #2 on the previous page, but I never read the script so I can't answer 1. He just robbed the mob of 67 million, he used it to buy the suit. He was insulting the entire mob, not just White's character, he just took it the hardest.

Quote: The Godfather is that. I get goosebumps when I remember the great scenes... Anyways I would say this, TDK is the best Blockbuster since ROTK and the best comic book film ever.

Surely it's not a better comic book film than The Godfather...

The Godfather is a crime epic, the best in that genre.
TDK is a crime epic/ comic book film...

 Re: The Dark Knight
Just for fun.
There could be a car chase scene rushing the Don to the Hospital.
It would have ruined the whole feel of the film though.

There is a thread for Godfather, please do not discuss it here.
This thread is for great movies only.

Quote: This thread is for great movies only. Okay, so one of the best scenes in the Godfather is the scene when Vito tells Michael that he did not want his son to be his successor. A very deep and emotional scene. Anyways, Back to the TDK. I really love the quote that you die as a hero or you live to see yourself as the villain. By GOD, such a deep quote...

Box wrote: Shack wrote: You guys are both right... the Rachel/Dent decision is a question of emotion VERSUS morals. If he chose the emotional side, he would pick Rachel because he loves her. If he was following his moral code of what he thinks is best for Gotham, he would save Dent, because he believes they need that White Knight... he bows to his emotional connection, showing he is a man first and a hero second, and Joker knew he would do that, he was playing him. I don't think it works that way. This isn't a matter of pitting emotion against morality. If you wish to insist that emotions and morality are both in play in the situation, then they are thus simultaneously. Whether Batman makes a decision based on his emotions and/or morals is beside the point. The issue is that the situation is fundamentally and inescapably a moral one, and everything else operates within that framework. See, I think if you look at morally, the decision is pretty clean cut. Gotham needs Dent much more than they need Rachel... by the definition posted in this thread, a moral dilemma would result in his doing something morally wrong whatever he chose. But there's nothing morally wrong about letting Rachel die instead of Dent, in fact, sacrificing his own happiness to save the one man who could eliminate crime in, and thus for the people of Gotham he's sworn to protect, would've been morally right. And if this was any other superhero that is what they would've done. The same situation happened in one of the best episodes of the television series Angel, entitled "A Hole in the World", where Angel could've saved one of the main characters and someone he loved Winfred from a fatal curse, but in doing so would've killed thousands of other people in the process. Naturally, as a champion, he lets her die, but not without hesitation. But Batman is selfish, so he chooses Rachel... and the Joker knows this, so he gets her killed anyways to wreck him and Dent simaltaneously. Of course, it could also be possible that Batman, being the genius detective he is, knew Joker would give him the wrong location and was trying to save Dent, and just yelled out Rachel's name to make sure Gordon went to her correct location. There is no true answer to what really happened, whether he bought the lie and tried to save Rachel, or knew he was lieing and went after Dent... which is brilliant. You could also make the case that subconsciencely, he wanted Dent to die because of his martyr complex and the fact that he believes that Batman should be the hero of Gotham. Again, there's lots of ways you can look at it.

 Re: The Dark Knight
IMO the film never tells you that the two were switched. It was very unclear about that...
If you watch the film you could think that Batman actually went for Harvey and he told Gordon to go for Rachael. That whole sequence happens so quickly that you do know what is going on.
It was not very clear and all but it was done purposely.
When Batman did get Harvey, I was surprised but you then realized it was the better outcome.
The fact that Batman did not start crying and such made you realize how complicated the Batman character really is.

 Re: The Dark Knight
They stated the address of where both were. And then later we find out that Two-Face is holding Gordon's family at the switched address.

 Re: The Dark Knight
Yes we know that but because Batman did not do what we thought he would do...
You know start going how can it be!!!!, or why!!!!
You did get a bit confused because it was so different then you would expect and then you start to think Batman did it on purpose.

 Re: The Dark Knight
Oh my God.
I don't even know where to start, so I'm just not going to.
But two points:
First, I'm pretty sure I have a firm grasp of the Joker as a figure, so please stop insisting that I need to see the film again or rethink my opinion of it. I feel quite offended, actually. In my opinion, there are serious problems in the film which are largely due to flaws in the characterization of the Joker which even Heath Ledger's performance cannot overcome. I expressed my opinions in a 2,000 word review above, and returned to many of those points subsequently in response to several people. I'm not sure what more I can do to make my opinions clear to you. At any rate, it's not as if most people case, given that almost everyone has already decided that this is a near-perfect film.
Second, I'm not sure where these claims that I'm a snob come from, since I only took one jab at people who overpraise the film, but for the record, the term snob doesn't offend me. In this case, I just think it's an unfair designation. For one thing, it's not as if I disliked The Dark Knight, or that I disliked those elements in it which would render me a snob (whatever those are). Moreover, there are many pop culture commodities (films, songs, etc.) which I love to bits and which I take as seriously as any novel or play.

 Re: The Dark Knight
He didn't have time to react to the WTF moment.
They tried to make it realistic, a cop wouldn't stop and say "OMG!!! He switched the addresses on me!!!" A cop would do their job and save the victim. Batman did just that.

Dent's face burned during the escape attempt. There was no time to react even afterwards.
