 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. For a good chunk the movie is a lot fun, and Mark and co. are a definite upgrade over Shia, Josh Whatshisname, the blonde, and that black guy. But then the movie has the audacity to be 165 minutes. Does Bay think he's making The Godfather of robot movies? Cause it's not. At least 25 minutes should've been trimmed somewhere between where they left the farm and fighting in China. There's a really decent, and brisk, 135 minute (yep, I said brisk) movie in here. Instead, when I should've been marveling over the China stuff, I just wanted it to end.
It was well worth the rental, and maybe even a bargain purchase one day. But Mike needs a new editor.
Transformers - A- Age of Extinction (shouldn't that have been the title of a non-existant movie set before this one?) - C+ Dark of the Moon - D+ Revenge of the Fallen - D

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I waited a long time to watch this movie, and I went in the very low expectations. I didn't hate it, but it's nowhere near the first film. I was reasonably entertained, though the movie is really bloated and dumb. I think there is a much better 2 hour version of this movie somewhere in there.
Transformers B+ Age of Extinction C+ Dark of the Moon C- Revenge of the FAllen C-
I do need to watch the other movies as I haven't in years, but I remember generally liking the first, and hating 2 and 3.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
Damn this movie was awful
1. Transformers A 2. Dark of the Moon B- 3. Revenge of the Fallen B- 4. Age of Extinction F
Movies two and three do not hold up well on repeat viewings.

Hm. I am a bit surprised you hated this SO MUCH when you loved or at least tolerated the first three. It is not so wildly different, is it?

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I can't even recall anything about this. I think the only way I'll check out the next one is if it's less than 2 hours like it should be.

He seemed the same as he was in Transformers 1, 2 and 3, for me.

I nearly fell asleep three times in the theater, and I went into the screening room pumped for some Transformers action. I can handle quite a bit of shit in movies and still like/love em, but for some reason this film irked me from beginning to end.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I watched this yesterday in full after starting it previously and shutting it off after 20 minutes. It's bad but certainly watchable, I enjoyed it more than the second (and the ghastly fifth). C

Transformers: Age of Extinction
I enjoyed this more than at the cinema. Same with Dark of the Moon. One thing that's better is there are no China-only scenes. Those really drag a film down. I like this fourth Transformers movie. The action in Hong Kong is just terrific. The new characters are fine. It is not an easy task to introduce new leading characters in a fourth movie. There's no time to have them ease into things, and you have to keep the momentum and plot going from previous films, but they were fine. Nicola Peltz is hot little sexpot (nubile hotness, the best kind). Mark Wahlberg was decent. And after seeing Jack Reynor in Sing Street I've done a complete 180 on him. I like the dude. He has some great lines in this (which includes teasing Wahlberg about kissing his daughter), as does Wahlberg actually. But Stanley Tucci steals the show. His lines are both funny and cringe-worthy. I mean, "ALGORITHMS! MATH! WHY CAN'T WE MAKE WHAT WE WANNA MAKE, HOW WE WANNA MAKE IT?!" is hilariously bad, but then "How do you say 'get the fuck out of the way' in Chinese?" is genuinely hilarious. Oh, and James Bachman, Thomas Lennon, and T.J. Miller were all great as further comic enjoyment.
So overall; pretty enjoyable. I'm a Transformers fan. Hell, I never thought I'd say that but these films are just highly enjoyable. The product placement did not bother me at all. It was actually kind of fun to spot them. And Lockdown is a pretty awesome villain. Looking forward to Galvatron in the fifth - who is secretly Megatron. Hope that comes to an end in an epic climax. Lastly, the music in this one stood out for the first time since the first, mainly because of Imagine Dragons' awesome track, "Battle Cry" playing throughout, but also because Hans Zimmer provided additional music. I think it was also a wise move to not use Linkin Park after three films. New cast needed new music.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
Interesting, I remember we watched this together in the cinema (there was this annoying kid running around at the beginning of the film (and maybe he kept on with it, don't remember that exactly), and we were only mildly entertained. Not bad, but just not serving as more than at most decent blockbuster entertainment. Cool to see that it has grown on you, but right now I find it a bit hard to shake the feeling of average from when watching it.

That was three years ago. Watch it again and see what you think.
